I purchased this 1917(DOB 1919) from an online auction. I was the only bidder and it became mine for $200.

It may have been the ugly brother to the one posted in this thread;

http://smith-wessonforum.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/540103904/m/2341010282

The following were the problems noted:
1. 10-15% finish. no pitting
2. no grips
3. The cylinder had been replaced with a later model 45 ACP cylinder

4, The cylinder rod had a small head instead of the larger cylinder rod head.

5.The gun wouldn't function as the timing and the hand were Mucked up.

I send it off to a friend of mine and he bead blasted and blued it.

Installed the bigger cylinder rod head onto the the existing cylinder rod, he couldn't replace the rod as the threads on the large head rod was different. Right hand vs left hand threads

I installed a pair of Magnas I had lying around.
and here is the finished project.

Total cost $325.00

I loaded up some 190 gr & 270 Gr LSWC rds today and will shoot it within the next two weeks

FYI: Cylinder throats measure .454 on all cylinders. Big Grin

Cool shooter at a good price!
Now, because I'm really picky, maybe you could give the front of the cylinder a little chamfer to make it more correct?

I wish I could find one at that price...

I like project guns. You and your friend did a great job.

Hey, could you post or send me some closeups of the front of the ejector rod? I want to see how he put the head on the new rod. I did one and want to compare. I might learn something.

Thanks.
