I would almost bet the grip was altered for a previous owner to wrap his/her little finger under the frame.

I would think that it could be S&W factory repaired, filled?

I can't believe that anyone would say something like this. The factory is no more
going to work on this gun, than I am going to catch the 7:10 to to moon. Where do
comments like this come from ?!

Yep, I saw it and it went more than double what I thought it would. Plenty of rust and looks like some hack went at the grip frame with a hand file. No way to treat any gun, let alone a pre-war magnum...

Mike - the original poster has gone but I will comment. I agree that S&W would not do that type of modification.

It would be interesting to see if that RM ever comes back on the market reblued, butt repaired sporting a set of pre war magnas, and has a Factory letter attached.

What kind of price would it fetch then.....say in 5 years?

I've been in metal fabrication for years and a good Mig Welder could repair that butt

****NOTE**** I'm not suggesting that the new buyer bought this gun with these intentions.

The way RM's continue to go up ..........
just curious of thoughts

Was it WC Fields who said there is a sucker born every minute? Or was it Groucho? I forget... Big Grin

I am sure that this gun could be restored but would cost thousands of dollars to do so. I would think that it would be much more than 5 years to make up the cost of the gun and restoration. Since the gun's serial and reg # are now known (and probably on several collector's databases all ready) no one should be able to pawn off this gun as original.

I forget stuff like that, too, after all, it's been a good while... but actually, it was P.T.Barnum who said it first. I think Fields quoted it without attribution in more than one movie.

I know what you are saying Mike, that 7:10 to the moon is never on time. Mad

Unlike the Confederacy, that gun will, indeed, rise again.

reblue - $300
grips - $500
butt weld $200
------------------
$1000

I think this is realistic $$ to resell. Maybe it'll letter to someone important???

Is this a feasable investment?

Very interesting / fascinating thread

I would think it would be better to letter it before fixing it.
