Very nice guns!

Would you mind to tell us how many of these beauties found their way into your vault?

Gorgeous guns, Jerry.
Makes my one S700xx gun feel so puny in comparison!

John:

EVERY transitional gun in the S 69000-S 70000 serial number range is a very important one ! To me anyway ! Smiler Smiler

I am especially interested in the very early guns with the checkered RM barrels. I currently know of six examples.

Keep in touch !

Jerry

Mine is the same gun I've tried to sell you a couple of times. It does not (unfortunately!) have the checkered RM barrel. Serial# 70066.

Jerry,
As a 'visual aid' for everyone who's not seen one, could you post a photo of a 'checked/Magnum' -ribbed 38/44 OD?
Thanks for your onsideration.

Don:

I own two but know of six examples total. They are from the range of very low S69600 to about S69900, but I am aware of at least seven other guns within that same range that DO NOT have the "checkered" barrels !

Here are a couple of photos. Dave (merlindrb) has the best one I have seen (via photos posted here on the Forum) but I cannot find the link showing the gun with holster and advertisement! I do have his photos but hopefully he will see this and share his gun with us.

Jerry,
Happy 4th to you and yours! Very nice ODs and obviously some you don't see very often. I really enjoy your pics and your OD Transition family! Maybe if I could take pics as well as you I could line up a few HDs.
Take care and thanks for posting these,
Bill

Bill:

Thank you for sharing your S 71201 !

If you have any closeups of what appears to be a King "cockeyed" hammer on your gun could you let us take a look?

Coming from someone with your collection Jerry I consider that a significant compliment, for which I thank you. Big Grin

Below are a few pics of my solitary and much treasured example. Thanks to our friends and fellow forum members Dick Burg and David Carroll for helping me to become it's custodian.

In case anyone doesn't know the story...the week I acquired the gun I came across a Lawrence holster and belt to match it, stamped 38/44. Then it got a bit freaky. Lyle Larkworthy told me to look at one of the 1946 issues of "The Rifleman", which I did. Lo and behold, there's a S&W ad featuring a 38/44 with the same Lawrence rig I'd just picked up. Wierd huh? This is the kind of stuff that makes collecting fun for me!! Big Grin Big Grin

Jerry,
I'll get the camera out soon and take some pics of the hammer although it is not marked King. It is offset to the left.
Dave,
Great gun and holster-you just made the past come to life with the two of them!
Thanks,
Bill
