Gary,
A good read, and IMHO a needed 'weeding-out' of the kind of person who causes us all a great big black eye.
What would you want to bet his 'bound book' doesn't match what was in his safe?!
Thanks for an eye-opener.

I'll bet you are 100% correct on that one, IF, he even had a book

NY C&R Guy was defninitely a fool, as there are TONS of great guns that DO qualify under the C&R rule. He could have had all the legal handguns he wanted as genuine C&R's. Did you note the reference to finding SIX HUNDRED rounds of ammo? Hell, I've shot that on a good day! I'd hate to be caught with only 600 rounds...that would be embarassing......

I like the part where this C&R holder sent a PMO for $260 to purchase TWO handguns-a 380 and 9mm. Wonder what high quality models he was trying to buy? Does anyone really need two Jennings autos? Wonder if it was nickel plated...???

The press and police's favorite red herring.

BATF would crap a brick if they saw how much ammo is in my basement.

Guys like that make it hard on the one's that collect. I feel I'm out of ammo if I get below 1000 rounds. I have about 4000 in 223 match setting around. Thats not counting the 32,38, and 22 for match shooting. Later John

To deal in & legally receive handguns from out of state he is supposed to also have a NYS Dealers licence which I'd guess he didn't have. When applied for here, one of the things asked for is a copy of your 01 Dealer FFL to prove you're in business. But how many out of state FFL's realize they're not suppose to transfer any handgun (incl cartridge antique)to an FFL in NYS without proof of that NYS Dealer License. One more reason many FFLs opt not to deal with transfers to certain states when handguns are involved.

I don't know about NYC, but a C&R license is not considered to be dealing. It is for "collecting", is given by the Feds, and NYC laws may not pre-empt it, ESPECIALLY now that gun ownership is an INDIVIDUAL right.

This guy must be a real bonehead to "collect" Jennings pistols...but it takes all kinds. In my opinion, the C&R license is a real pain in the [I]derriere[I and isn't worth the hassle unless you are into WWI or WWII military armament, etc. I also get put out by the press yowling about ammo. If you are a shooter of any kind, or a handloader, most of us have thousands of rounds. Somebody said, 'red herring?' You bet!

I have a C&R License here in NY State. I can purchase long arms, but no handguns with this License. If I want a handgun, C&R or modern, I need to go thru a 01'FFL.
Part of the fun of living in NY. Wink
Everytime I go to the Middletown Gun Show, I run into this guy who insists that I can buy his CZ52's with my C&R.I have been telling him for years now that I cannot purchase handguns on a C&R. I think that I will print that story and set him straight.

That was my point. He needed to have a NYS Dealers license to receive the handgun(s) from O/State or from an in State source. He can't get a NYS Dealers license in NYS if he does not have an 01 Dealers FFL because he is not a business. They will not issue them to an 03 Collectors FFL in NYS.
Sorry if I didn't explain it right.
