I recently purchased a 22/32 which I posted on here that had some issues. This gun is rough, little or no finish, missing rear site blade, cylinder not indexing fully. I probably spent too much for it, $200.00, and now I am looking at about another $200.00 to bring it back to a safe working firearm. My plan for this gun was just as a cool old shooter, to allow me and my kids to have a plinker. Money as always is tight, but could use some advice. Should I just cut my losses and have a wall hanger or bring this piece back to life?
Your thoughts and advice is greatly appreciated. ________________________________________ Why don't you run away and find yourself a life. |

Is this a pre-WWII gun (the hammer pivot pin should be visible just under the cylinder latch release)? If it is you may have trouble getting parts to have it repaired, the cylinder not indexing suggests that either the hammer, hand and/or cylinder bolt may need to be replaced. I'd send it to Grant Cunningham or Hamilton Bowen for them to just take a look at it and decide what parts they need; then save money while I looked for the parts as neither of these gunsmiths are exactly inexpensive, but both are first class.

From my original inquiry it looks like it dates to 1914-1920. original post and photos.

At $200 just for repairs, you will be $400 into it for a rough,
little or no finish shooter. You can get a decent shooter for less than that, and it will have a lot more than little-to-no finish. Threre is another alternative, and that is to sell it. Maybe you can net $100 from an auction house, maybe a bit less, but your sunk cost will be less than the $200 you are sitting at now. Later, Mike Priwer |

I already offered to fix this up for you in your last post for next to nothing, alot less than $200 thats for sure. I just got done doing a barrel swap on one of these of my own that I bought for $250 I installed a four inch target barrel in place of the 6 inch barrel that was bulged and it came out perfect. I do lots of small job gunsmith work on my and my friends guns. I make custom knives for a living. cucchiaraknives.com

I have several of these and they are neat guns. I would suggest that you try taking the sideplate off and see if it needs a good cleaning. Sometimes years of grease, oil and dust get dried up and gum up the works. Either way, you will get a look at the internal parts and may see the problem. As many have posted, you are probably better off just fixing the rear sight and shooting it, assuming your cleaning helps the indexing problem. Otherwise you might be better off selling it outright and investing the money in a better shooter. As long as they are not a "true bekeart" you can find them in my area for around $450.
