Among the 30 some guns I bought today, mostly for resale were a cop;e of keepers

I got an early, post war 38 M&P, with a 2" bbl, original grips and appears unfired it is C26xxx, blue is 100%. It cost me $275. As I was exploring through the box lots I spotted a gold box among the other boox of boxes and the box numbered to the gun I bought. I paid $66 for all the boxes. So it put me in the gun w both and cleaning kit for $341

I also got a 100% Model 1905 in the original maroon hinged box with paperwork for $495, it is 558xxx.

Then in one of the last box lots containing grips like Hogues and Pachmayrs and other various grips, was a gorgeous set of pre war magnas. Unfortunately, someone else may have realized what they were and I had to pay $440 for the lot. I hope to sell some grips and recoup my investment. I wonder what happened to the gun they belonged to. The sn on the grips is 47135

It's been a long day and it's time to turn in

Nice score.
Those pre-war magnas are hotter than a cattle prod on a hog's ass! Big Grin

Looks like some "creative" checkering on the 2-incher's grips. Interesting...

The handguns counters were crowded (and HOT) and I didn't get to check those two out. If they're the ones I'm thinking about , I did see that they had the original blackish DuLite finish and weren't reparkerized. Didn't see how 'mixed' the other parts were. I thought they went kinda high.

Good eye John. The grips on the 2 incher do have some extra checkering that I have never seen the likes of. It is very well done and could pass for factory work

Gary, Did you check the fit of the pre-war magnas on the M&P? I have posted and discussed a recent M&P purchase I made that is very similar to your m&P package. I have a similar style box, but my gun wears the pre-war magnas and they fit to the frame perfectly. Perhaps they belong on the m&p.

Also, does your box have the spanish print on the right half of the lid? Mine is the dark blue or black hinged box. Nice find.

Rick:
Serial numbers for the N frame magnas will be 5 digit and K frames will be 6 digit. Gary probably cross referenced an N frame database for a 5 digit number.

I like that two inch. As long as it is tastefully done, I think period modifications like that checkering add quite a bit of interest to a gun. Very nice.

Nice haul, Gary. That's great you found the guy with the gun that the prewar magnas number to. And so quickly! Amazing! Smiler

The magnas I got were N frames. I cross referenced the N frame database on the S&WCA board to find the owner of the gun that the grips belonged to. My box is maroon, I think it does not have the Spanish writiting in the lid, but I am out of town until mid week. I'll try and remember to look when I get back. The box does number to the gun

Also, does your box have the spanish print on the right half of the lid? Mine is the dark blue or black hinged box. Nice find.

Oh, N frame magnas. I don't take in details well when I read. Missed that.

I like your K frame pre war magnas. What is the serial number range of your gun? Mine is 558875

No I did not get it. Between the wrong holster and areas of heavy rust on the gun I did not think it was worth what it sold for, especially factoring in the 10% premium. There was another S&W 1917 that was listed in the auction as being a Colt

Gary, My M&P is serial 657XXX. Can't tell you for sure if the gun wore them when shipped, but they fit very well. I just sent a letter request to Mr. Jinks, so we'll see what he says in a few months.
