Thanks.

White:

DSC is the acronym for the Defense Supplies Corporation. This was the government agency charged with the responsibility of coordinating purchases of firearms from manufacturers and sales of firearms to law enforcement, defense plants and other entities that had a legitimate need for weapons during the War. So, for example, if Ford Motor Co. needed 50 Victory Models to outfit the guard force at a Jeep plant, it placed its order through the DSC which approved or disapproved the order. If the order was approved the guns would be shipped by the manufacturer to Ford on a DSC authorization at the DSC specified price. Remember that civilian firearms sales were pretty much eliminated throughout most of the War.

Hope that explanation helps you.

whitecoyote,
Very interesting post. It's wonderful to read all the replies and come away a more educated accumulator!

My DCS gun's s/n 972535. Supposed to be of 1942 vintage. As you can see, my gun also "lost" it's lanyard ring.

Congrats on the gun.

Bob

VonFatman,
Yes, it is wondeful to read the replies and become more educated. S&W forum is a wealth of knowledge.
Many of the members here are walking encyclopedias, and have forgotten more than I will ever know.
Thanks everyone for your help! It is much appreciated.

That looks like a nice DSC/Victory revolver.
Any side pictures?

Ford didn't build Jeeps; they built GPWs! Big Grin

Old Henry had "Ford" stamped on most of the parts that it produced when they were building GPWs.

Ford did design the classic Jeep grill.
