In June, 2004 my son purchased these derelicts from Southern Ohio Guns (SOG):

1) An S&W M&P series 1905 4th change .38 S&W (frame, cyl, barrel parts only) S/N 841823

2) A S&W Victory Mod. 38 S&W 1943 (frame, cyl, barrel parts only) S/N V503646

Here's a Pic of what he got (for $50 ea.):

Here are some closeup detail pics:

We were able to scrounge up enough parts to make the "V" pistol into a non-functional wall-hanger:

I don't intend to letter the two in this post because they are not likely to ever be shootable again.

Thank you, RonJon. That additional information is very helpful and a useful addition to our pre-Victory and Victory Model Database. As you appreciate, even relic Victories have valuable information to impart.

Charlie,

Just because I'm curious would you please look into your database and give me any info you might have on these two 'derelicts'? Like when they were made or shipped, etc.

Thanks - I appreciate the work you two are doing on building this database!

RonJon

RonJon:

The Database indicates that 841823 was likely shipped in the October, 1941 time frame. I think chances are good that it was shipped to the British Purchasing Commission.

On V503646, I would say that it was likely shipped in the January to March, 1944 time frame. The Database indicates that there is some variability in shipping dates for guns in that range. Chances are high that your revolver was a Lend Lease gun that was shipped from the factory to the Hartford Ordnance Depot in Springfield, Mass.

I hope this additional information proves interesting and useful to you.

I'm too new to know exactly what mine is, in regards to 1902 1905 etc but it's definitely pre-war, pre Victory 297251. I hope it helps the data base.

Hello B:

Thanks for your post and offer. You definitely have a pre-war gun there, but it does not technically qualify as a pre-Victory. The pre-Victory guns are considered by collectors to be those guns in the approximate range of (no prefix) 700000 to 999,999. Your very nice revolver pre-dates that range by a considerable amount so it is not a pre-Victory.

Again, thanks for your offer. Perhaps your post will encourage others with pre-Victory and Victory revolvers to provide us with the data on their guns. We have had a tremendous amount of cooperation from Forum members here in the past and it has immeasurably helped improve the Database.

Best regards,

Thanks OG for the kind reply. It's a learning process... I do get to a bunch of shops and shows around Alabama, will keep an eye open for that serial number range and post any findings. Anything I can do to help is a pleasure. Of the few S&Ws I own folks on this forum have been very helpful and patient when I had questions about them.
