Looks like a pre-war .38 M&P 1905 model, made until WWII. Serial number will help to pin down a date of manufacture. The grips are from a post-war period. I don't think the S&W factory will work on guns this old, but you can call them at 1-800-331-0852 and ask.

Need the serial number before we can give you much information. No, the grips aren't right. They're post-war. the gun appears to be pre-war. AFAIK S&W won't work on anything pre-war.
