I came across a 1917 Revolver Ordnance shipping crate made to hold 25, 1917 revolvers. It is in amazing cosmetic shape with various railroad shipping lables to Fort Ord in California. The interior has wooden forms attached to the sides to securley hold the revolvers in a barrel down, grip to the outside configuration. It appears that there is a track on the inside of each end to hold some kind of additional form that slides down to hold a second layer of revolvers which is of course missing. The guy is firm at $225 for the box plus the cost of shipping. Is it worth it?

I found it burried under a pile of old Life Magazines in the basement of an antique store in a small town in upstate NY. The only reason I didnt snag it right away was due to transportation considerations. I didnt think Continental Airlines would take it too kindly if I tried to shove the big green crate into the overhead bin on my return flight. Thanks for all the interest. I'll post some pics when it arrives.

Yes, in fact they provided Smith and Westerns chambered for .45 Long Colt bullets.

I've heard that some of the calvary Smith and Westerns had partridge sites.
