Correction- there is NOT a "THE" book for S&W.....one NEEDS to own a minimum of 3: "SCSW" "History of" by Jinks "S&W 1857-1945"(Revised 1975) by Neal & Jinks. Regards, Lee Jarrett SWCA Life Member #418 SWHF Founding Member #118 See my website at: noconeetrader.com |

gametime; DO NOT get the fairly recent book(?) by R1ck Sapp, "The Standard Catalog of Colt Firearms". it is Gun Digest publication and really poorly executed.
Photos seemed to impress some of the 'visual learners' over on the Colt Forum, but captions and much other data wrong. Other than 'tomes' on the SAA and percussion Colts, the only book is the all encompassing "Book of Colt Firearms", by R.L. Wilson It is expensive,dated(1971), and has some errors,since brought to light but I was "taught" to purchase at least one quality book for every gun I buy. The $200, or so, you'd probably pay for the BOCF, could save you at least that if you purchased a spurious Colt. I was hoping, that having "time to spare"(he was in prison for fraudulent dealings) and the need for $$(facing big lawsuits) that Mr. Wilson might bring out an updated edition of BOCF, but his interest is mostly in the percussion Colts and SAA's. Still a real void on pre (and post) war Colt D.A.s, except for a couple of nice tomes covering the early swing out Army/Navy Colts(Bob Best) and New services(Bob Murphy). Bud |

Havens and Belden "The History of the Colt Revolver" is a good one, but not up to the Supica standard as far as information is concerned. (But then I don't know of many publications that do measure up to SCSW.)

gametime; without going into detail on 22 lr. OMs;
1) separate # range, starting @#1 in 1930, when the .22 cal. OM was introduced 2.) 6" bbl. only(catalogued) 3.) recessed chambers from #7100 on. 4.) BOTH front & rear sights are adj. 5.) Walnut silver medallion stocks with several options. Like pre war .22 Outdoorsmen, CAN'T wear em out! Bud |
