I have had this old M&P 5" which is one of my most accurate shooters. This gun makes me look good, I do have the original grips, But I thought it would be interesting to toss these on thet I got off of Ebay for about 30 bucks, I have a vintage shoulder holster for the M&P, and looks quite good in it.
The old girl is worn and had a long life being made in 1928.
It's a 4th change.
I like these grips.

Peter.

I think I'm gonna need a bigger safe.

Probably no secret I'm pretty fond of M&P's but as far as shooters go, 5 inch is absolutely my favorite. Its just...well, right. Nice gun...enjoy it.

Looks like fun to shoot. The 5" bbl is nice and also the long action. When you find an accurate gun, don't sell it, keep it for shootin. Larry

Dumb question.

How do you tell a long action, from a short one ?

To tell if it's a long action, I look at the hammer below the spur. That hump seems to sick out more and is "longer" than the short action.

Cheers!

To determine a long action, I look for the hammer pivot pin showing under the cylinder release. This works for all frames and hammer styles.
The only short action gun that had this pin showing is the pre-war K22 Masterpiece 2nd model with the step on the back of the hammer.

As for the grips Back in the 60`s all the police in Anniston AL. had brass or silver plates on the bottom of there grips.they would be where you could see yourself in them. One of the gunsmiths here would fit them to your gun with a clip on the bottom of the plate so the grips would hold the plate on with out screws. looked real good. I had forgotten about these grips. thanks for the brain duster

Thanks for the replies, I think that after a few days on the gun, The grips will go to a K38, model 14-2, At least the grips will be right for that gun, The old M&P happens to be one of my very best shooters, even with fixed sights I can use it on the 50 yard range and do alot of damage to a paper plate, I dont know what it is about the gun, But it shoots like my 25-2
And the 5" is a favorite of mine!
