Some of you may recall a post (1905 4th 2" Letter) I made some months ago regarding a revolver that lettered to a Captain H. Von Knorr of Brookline Mass. I have made some progress with his identification but would like to ask for your help. Standard google searches led me to discover an add on the inside cover of the Feb. 1933 American Rifleman for Peters cartridges. This ad (sorry, I don't have the equipment to scan it into this post) announces the winning of six NRA champinships with Peters ammo and pictures four of the winners including Chas. Askins Jr. and the subject of my search. The photo is of a moustachioed man in a white tunic with 28 medals pinned to the front holding what looks like a S&W 22/32 Target and is captioned "Hans von Knorr Brookline Mass".
What I am looking for is information regarding these pistol matches. I believe results were covered in the American Rifleman and other periodicals of the time, and I am hoping that some one of you could point me towards the correct issues of these magazines. I believe that these were Postal matches where in targets were mailed to the NRA for scoring and the results were announced through the publication. I am hoping that these will reveal other information that will help me find more about him. Ancestry.com has some limited information on several individuals by this name, including a WWII draft registration card and Soc. Sec. death records, but little else, and nothing that I can definitively tie to the man in either the letter or the photo. The Factory letters addition of "Captain" to his name may not be accurate, or may refer to a police, fire, or even foriegn military service. I have reached something of a dead end at this point and am hoping that someone here can help me go further in my research. Thanks for your attention and I look forward to anything anyone may be able to add. Doug |

Hans von Knoor was an automotive engineer in Boston in the mid 20's. He was a member of the Liberty Pistol and Rifle Club in 1926. Check your email. Sent you a couple of newspaper articles from the period. Good luck in your search. This is fun stuff of collecting.

Have you tried the local historical association or local library reference desk from Brookline or that area? Might be something there
