I might have an opportunity to buy a 3rd model L.S. and need to know what a good price on this would be. I know these guns don't come around very often so I need some input from the forum. Gun is a blued 3" version with what appears to be correct wood medallion grips. Gun is about 70% original finish with no pitting or major scuffs. just some normal wear for this period of gun that has had some use. One issue is that it is missing the upper side plate screw. Don't know how hard this would be to replace? No box or anything like that. I can probably get some pics if that will help much. Thanks for any advice.

Pre,

I don't know how this compares, but I bought a 3rd about a year ago. It was factory re-nickeled in the early '20s. (as stamped under the grips) Finish now is in the upper 90's with a few small spots and freckles. It's wearing original smooth walnut grips with small deep dish gold medallions. The reason I bought it, even with the factory refinish, was that it is mechanically perfect with a perfect bore. Most of these you find have split forcing cones and are worn out. I've even shot it a few times with subsonic CB Shorts and it's surprisingly accurate! (I pride myself in shooting every gun I own at least once, even my tip-up Smiths)

Anyway, I gave the equivalent of $700 for it with some trading. I probably overpaid a little, but it sure is cute.

Pre, I'm no expert on this gun, or on anything else for that matter, but here goes a little from the SCSW3. The value ratings for the 3rd model are

AsNew $2500, Exc $1200, Fine $850, VG $550, Good $400, Fair $250 and Poor $125.

At 70%, I would say that gun probably falls into the VG to Good zone leaning more towards good. With the upper sideplate screw, I'm not sure if it's the same as newer models, and you could just pick up another one, if so I wouldn't let it detract from the value, if it's a "special" screw, then you would have to knock off the price of a replacement screw. The SCSW3 is about two years old, so I suspect the values have went up a little, but not much on other than mint or near mint guns. I hope this info is at least a bit helpful.
