I stopped by a local dealer and he had a very nice S&W Military 1917 on consignment. Other than a bit of wear on top of barrel and freckling light on back strap I would rate at least 90%. Mechanically the revolver seems to be as new. Problem was the asking price of $1000.00. Dealer said he didn't have any wiggle room but hopefully the owner might come down if it don't sell quickly. Anyone care estimate a price for this 1917? My thoughts were that $750 - $800 was more in line.

That seems high to me unless it was immaculate or had John J. Pershing's initials on it.

WAYYYYY to much for a 90% 1917, IMHO. I jsut closed a deal on a 95% 1917 for $500, granted I think that was a good price, but that would be what a 90% gun would be worth.

You can find them online for $500-$800 depending on condition and location. Mine (1937) is in good condition as far as finish, but works and shoots just fine, which was my main concern, cost $450.

Are certain serial # ranges worth anymore on 1917's? I think this one is in the 25,000 range if I looked at it correctly.

I think the only variations that will bring a premium are the early models with grooved hammers and and convex top grips.
