Until I buy a second carry gun, I have decided to invest in a couple of Safariland Comp 1 speedloaders for my M442-2. Now, I would like to find out from those of you that carry this speedloader, your method of carrying it. Photos and links to the supplier of your speedloader pouch would be greatly appreciated, along with any comments on it.

Thanks!

I stick it in my front right trouser pocket.

I've tried pouches and the pocket is, for me, still the fastest place to get it from.

As far as concealment, people are used to seeing all kinds of items bulging out of pockets, if they even notice at all.

A speedloader looks like a million other things in your pocket.

Wyatt Earp,

Just curious, but if you use the right front trouser pocket, where do you carry your pistol? I am assuming some kind of holster carry?

Thanks,

Dave

Matt Del Fatti's SLC-1 is the best speedloader carrier for the Safariland Comp-I speedloader for J-frames.

It holds the speedloader ready, is comfortable and prevents the center star from being inadvertantly touched. The pics show a loaded speedloader in the carrier from the side view. The polymer flange keeps the pouch supported, with the speedloader sitting above the belt, but it doesn't feel top-heavy.
Basketweave is only an option. Mine are plain.

Safariland Model 373-J Split Six, made specifically for J-frames. I don't think they're made anymore, but there may be some on the auction sites.

Pocket carry works OK as long as your pants aren't too tight (for either concealment or withdrawal Wink ).

SAWBONES:

The photos that you have posted are for the SLC-2, not the SLC-1, at least according to Del Fatti's web site. Del Fatti

haggis: I have found the Model 373-J Split Six for sale, no problem. However they aren't cheap. In the photos that I have seen, they don't look like very good quality. How has yours worked out for you? Are you satisfied with the quality?

Charlie,

The two I have are leather, not Safarilaminate, and are pretty well made. I think the all leather split sixes hold up better than the laminate ones. You didn't say how much it costs, but they've always been pricey. I bought mine at near retail and was happy to get them.

Ooops! It is the 371 that I have found, not the 373. I wonder if the 373 was leather, and the 371 is synthetic of some sort. It looks like synthetic to me. You'll have to scroll down to it.

IWB, 4 o'clock for revolvers and 3 o'clock for semis.

The 373 is not as tall as the 371 - looks like it's made for 1.25"-1.5" belts. Since I've never seen a laminate 373, it's possible that the 373's were only available in leather.

Back to your problem. I was unaware that Safariland offered a 371 for the J-frame. It's probably laminate, and it's for a somewhat larger belt size, and you can probably get it a bit cheaper from a police supply store. I'd buy one to see if I liked it. If you do, buy several - Safariland products for revolvers have a way of disappearing from the market with little advance notice.

Check the camera department at Wal-Mart or Meijer, or visit a large camera store. Browse through the small cases for digital cameras. Many have belt loops or belt clips, and the small ones are just the right size for 2 speedloaders. (You should always have 2- in case you drop the first one when you pull it out! Just let it go...) To the casual observer, no one would suspect you're carrying ammo.

I usually carry my Comp 1 in the right front pants pocket unless I'm carrying a gun there, then it's either in a jacket pocket or side pocket of my cargo pants (which is what I normally wear for casual dress). Sometimes I carry a speed strip instead.
