A lot of hurt would've been avoided if either one of these hikers would have been carrying.
Hmm...rabid animal...shoot on sight! http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080424/ap_on_re_us/bobcat_attack |

I don't understand people. You would bring other tools when hiking, why not a self protection tool? Thank goodness for that hammer.
on a related note, I have heard that rabies shots are a b*tch. "You may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you." Michael Walzer -NRA Member- |

Academics. Most of them are severe hoplophobes. I was once harrassed by a pack of loose dogs on a hiking trail. Ever since that day I do not set foot in the outdoors/wilderness unarmed. No exceptions. Las armas son necesarias Pero nadie sabe cuando; Asi no, si andas paseando, Y de noche sobre todo, Debes llevarlo de modo Que al salir, salga cortando. Martín Fierro |

It wouldn't even have taken much of a weapon. A basic .22 would have done the job.

The Rabies shots are not as painful as the immunoglobulin shots that have to be administered circumferentially around each wound, about a centimeter apart...ask me how I know. Respect wildlife, use a good marinade. |

From the article:
"It's very sad," Thompson said. "This poor kitty cat was deranged by its disease-riddled brain. I love the native cats. It was terrible to have to kill it." Such an attitude likely explains why they weren't armed and why the poor kitty cat decided to eat them. |

Shot a raccoon with a 22. Went to throw the "dead" raccoon off the levee and got bit, never to find the raccoon again. Ah, the joys of projectile dysfunction. Respect wildlife, use a good marinade. |

What's the fine for killing an endangered Bobcat with an Assault Hammer?
Couldn't they just talk things out like rational earthlings? Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see. Strawberry Fields, The Beatles |

I bet I know what you said... "It's very sad. This poor racoon was deranged by its disease-riddled brain. I love the native racoons. It was terrible to have to kill it." "You may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you." Michael Walzer -NRA Member- |

To this day it still astounds me that people walk around with this mentality. |

They're the same people that get out of their cars to pet or feed the bears in our national parks.
They're also the same ones who walk into a dark parking lot while talking on the cellphone and looking for their keys. They get weeded out over time. Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see. Strawberry Fields, The Beatles |

No, I was cursing at myself for being so stupid for not using the .243 for a little pink mist action instead of the 22lr. I wish I were drinking at the time so I could have blamed it on the alcohol instead of a redneck moment. But alas, I don't drink and shoot. Respect wildlife, use a good marinade. |

For my raccoon, I used my 657MG, and left the thing to cool down over night. The 215 grain swc penetrated center mass, and he only made it about 10 yards.

I'm sorry they had to kill it too, especially with a hammer. Probably ruined the pelt. Besides, they're out of season
