While I may carry a 4 inch K or L frame during the winter, I just can't see how to carry anything bigger than a J frame when the temps rise into the 90's. I wear shorts and a t shirt exclusively from May until Oct.
I know there will be some who will say they carry a 6 inch so and so even in the summer. I fail to see how this could be done, and I'm 6'4" and weigh 200lbs so have plenty of "frame" to hide such a piece. Let's hear what YOU carry concealed in the lazy hazy days of summer. The same as in winter, my M649 in .38 Special.
When I wear a winter coat I sometimes carry a second 649, or an M38 in a coat pocket. I have been accumulating leather and working on moving up to a larger gun for a while, but usually end up carrying a J-frame anyway. "Never part with your weapons when you are in the field. Pocket carry w/M642 in a Wild Bill's pocket holster. With the right shorts, you might get away with something bigger. I like Royal Robbins "Blue Water" shorts because the front pockets are relatively large, and the patch pockets cover the lower 2/3 of the front pockets, effectively masking the outline of the gun. You don't see the speedloader and speed strip in the other front pocket, either.

With an untucked t-shirt or camp shirt or guayabera, my 9x23 Aegis Pocket Rocket in a Sparks Executive or VMII, or Brommeland Max-Con V works great. I'm 5' 7 1/2" and 165lbs. If I choose to do so, I can conceal a full-size 1911 in the same manner, but I usually don't go above Commander-size for untucked shirt concealment, and preferably with Officer's-length frame. I carry a spare mag and SureFire light on the off side in either a Brommeland or Rosen pouch.

It is shorts and t-shirt weather pretty much year round down here so I don't ever change it up much... 638 in a Mika pocket holster for me.

Same as in winter 'cept switch H&K P7-M8 for a S&W 642. CCW modes don't vary...j-hook IWB's with shirt tucked around, DeSantis/Galco OWB's when wearing a camp shirt or sport coat, shoulder holster (rarely) whilst in a vehicle for a long period of time. NEVER off my person.
Be safe. |

Usually a round butt model 36 in a Mika pocket holster.
$6 A J-frame in the hand is worth two in the safe. |

Either a 640 or 642 in a Kramer pocket holster with shorts and a t-shirt. With an untucked Hawaiian or camp shirt a Sig 1911 C3 (commander length slide with alloy officer's length frame) in a Dillon snap-off OWB.

G27 in my pocket, 442 attached to my armor under my left arm - or in the other pocket if for some reason I'm not wearing my vest.
I don't wear shorts (I don't even own a pair) and rarely wear short sleeve shirts. Garments that cover the skin keep the sun off of it and actually keep a person cooler. I wear 5.11 pants most of the time, the pockets fit the G27 in a Desantis Nemesis without difficulty. |

I can easily carry a 4" K frame or a 915 in the summer, even with a t shirt. Avoid tight fitting, light colored shirts and all will be well.
However, shirts like this: Make concealment and looking presentable much easier. Las armas son necesarias Pero nadie sabe cuando; Asi no, si andas paseando, Y de noche sobre todo, Debes llevarlo de modo Que al salir, salga cortando. Martín Fierro |

PPK in jeans. No holster. Keys, change in other pocket...Printing, forget it...I tried larger calibers, even in compacts, just too damn heavy.

I'm planning on buying one of those 5.11 shirts. I just wish they made them in some prints, which help to disguise slight printing. |

I'm the 6" 686 guy and I'm 5"7" 190 lbs. I carry it IWB at 3:00. Trade in your t-shirts for hawaiian/busy print shirts. They are just about as cool as t-shirts (steer clear of shirts with super light fabric, they print in the wind too easily). Use a decent gun belt. You can carry what you want, you just have to dress around the gun. Yes, big guns are not quite as comfortable, but at least for me, not terribly bothersome if the set up is right and I'm used to it. You definately can't forget a big gun is there, but the up side of that is that you stay reminded of why it's there in the first place. You just have to decide what you want, total comfort or major cannonage, or something in between. The choice is yours.
When working outside on my property I switch to an appendix carried snubby and I always wear a brace of pistols in my front pockets. Don't carry a gun because of what may happen today. Carry because once, just once, and at the least likely time imaginable, you may run into the worst monster you ever could imagine. Be their worst nightmare and resist them with all the stubbornness that our pioneer ancestors posessed. To do less is to be unamerican. |

A couple of different options I use for summer carry. I wear a tee shirt and use an OWB kydex rig, strong side, with spare mag on support side. (S&W 457, .45acp) I cover it with an unbuttoned Aloha shirt, or buttoned if it's windy, which I buy one size too large. It has worked well undercover and off duty carry for decades and I've never been "made."
Another option is new for me. Last Christmas my son bought me a new S&W 642. I carry it primarily as a back-up at work in a pocket holster, but on the rare days when the weather gets hot in Oregon, I'll try it that way off duty as well. I know I'm giving up some power and firepower with a 5 shooter, but I got the latest development from Speer Gold Dot, 135 gr. Short Barrel JHPs. I always carry at least one re-load as well, so I'm not too concerned. Besides, my wife carries, so I normally have instant back-up.
