The original poster's question was about carrying inside WDW, not about parking lots or employees. While I don't agree with Disney prohibiting secured weapons in cars, I do support their right to say no weapons inside the parks. For those of you who say that their property rights get trumped by your rights, how about some gun banner setting on your lawn telling everyone who is in earshot what their views are on the 2nd Amendment?
Some of you people crack me up and I try to envision you ccw while swimming in a public pool or heading down the water slide. |

What's the differance where in Disney world you are? Disney property is Disney property to me and in my opinion you couldn't find a place that your more vulnerable. I'm sure all of the criminal types that go there, and they do, obey all the restrictions in regards to carrying weapons on Disney property. Not to belabor the point but I feel more secure with than without.

There's a big difference between my property, which is private, and a place like Disney that's open to the public. I find it funny that the same liberals (I'm not calling you one CJ, I don't know you) that want to ban smoking in all public places suddenly become the great champions of proberty owner's rights. Don't carry a gun because of what may happen today. Carry because once, just once, and at the least likely time imaginable, you may run into the worst monster you ever could imagine. Be their worst nightmare and resist them with all the stubbornness that our pioneer ancestors posessed. To do less is to be unamerican. |

When I was 17, 19 & 20 years old back in the late '70s, I worked in downtown Newark, NJ. I both drove in and took public transportation. I did not carry. I had to use the low-tech version of personal safety: Keeping alert, not engaging in talk with strangers, keeping a large buffer zone between me and others, wearing shoes I could run in if need be, letting people know where I'd be going to lunch, etc.
You do have other safety strategies besides keeping a concealed weapon tucked so deeply to avoid detection that you couldn't get to it in a hurry anyway. In my BC (before carry) days, I also taught my kids the same safety techniques. I dressed them in bright colors and they wore a whistle with instruction to toot it if they somehow got separated from me and to blast it if they felt threatened by someone. Their names & my cell phone number were inside their clothing. My parents have been traveling all over the world into some pretty bizarre locations for the last 30 years and they need to rely solely on their brains and cunning and so far (knock wood), they've done quite alright. The point is there are a multitude of self-protection strategies to use when carrying is not an option, including not going if you cannot reconcile yourself to other options besides concealed carry. There are certain restrictions on where you may ccw. Many states say you cannot go into bars for example. Do you carry in the bar or leave you gun/guns outside? No more treacherous place on Earth(outside a War zone), imo, than a bar.
How about a courthouse? You carry there? Public building as far as I know. Schools and Universities? The Post Office? The public is in and out of there every day. I see many places where your "rights" have been curtailed. BTW, the admission price to WDW is kind of pricey, does anyone really think that the common street thug is going to pay a hundred dollars or so(for 1 day) just to get in? |

I didn't CCW before I became a cop. Once I was a cop, I carried every day...on- and off-duty 'til I retired. Probably would never have carried had I not become a cop. However, I do CCW post-retirement because I still think like one. "Think" like a cop; not "act" like a cop. That said, it bothers me not one iota when I must be/choose to be in a place where I cannot carry for any reason(s.)
As BarbC and others so clearly state, situational awareness and common sense is the key to getting by in this world. Be safe. |

Is that the kind of regulatory thinking Scalia alluded to in the Heller decision? |

If it makes you uncomfortable to be unarmed, do not go to places where you need to be unarmed. I almost never go to places where I cannot be armed; most of them are dumb places such as bars anyway.
If you are not going to be checked, and the worst that can happen if you have the misfortune to be discovered is being told to leave, intercourse 'em. I have no need to go amusement parks, generally, and I don't like people very much, so the social costs to me are nil. Hell, most of the time, if I can't take my rottie, I don't go someplace, either. And you can be sure he's a lot harder to conceal than a sidearm or two and a knife, etc. (He's also more pleasant than I am ...) ** It has has been said that one will catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. While this is true, it is also irrelevant. The goal is not to catch them, but kill them. Neither honey nor vinegar will achieve this. Aerial spraying of Malathion, however, will. |

Update Here's the latest on the Disney employee.Linky It appears now that this guy is toast and will even be liable for any legal expenses Disney incurs. Disney does have the federal permit, as required under U.S.C., and thus is in full compliance with the new Florida law by not allowing firearms in employee vehicles.
And more bad news, it seems Universal is also off the hook as there is an Orange County school on property. Hats off again to our Florida Legislature who could screw up a wet dream. Bob |

Going to WDW is like handing a check to the Brady Bunch.
I guess we can selectively decide which anti-gun establishments we want to patronize. Then we can bitch and moan about our rights being "infringed" upon. |

I'm making the sacrifice for my daughter. This will probably be our only trip this December. I have relatives who do nothing but vacation at that wretched place. How shallow.
There are far more meaningful vacations that I can think of, but I do owe my daughter her one fantasy. Las armas son necesarias Pero nadie sabe cuando; Asi no, si andas paseando, Y de noche sobre todo, Debes llevarlo de modo Que al salir, salga cortando. Martín Fierro |
