I think that modes of carry which scream "I HAVE A GUN" actually put you in more danger of a event where force has to be used.Forewarmed is fore armed so it is more likely that the perp will bring sufficent force to disarm you and potentially blow your head off with your own gun.In New York you must carry concealed. The last time my gun came out a gentleman pulled a sharpened screwdriver when questioned what he was doing near my car. When this happened I drew my S+W 640,activated the lasersight starting at his chest and landing between the eyes of the perp.It was in a strong side holster out and ready before the perp could blink. He ran and the event was over. What decreases crime most is states that have "Shall Issue"CCP's or states like VT and AK that only have federal law.If everyone knows any lawbiding citizen can carry it is far more likely that a criminal will not commit the crime if Grandma might pull out her wallet or a 357 magnum. You won't break into someones home if there is a strong possibility they will be met with armed and lethal resistence.........God Bless.......Mike

For a civilized person, to know the criminal mind is sad and disturbing thing. They are truly less than fully human. They lack empathy, the ability to put yourself in another's place. If they see a little kid hurt, alone and crying, they walk by feeling nothing.
They are incapable of love. Sex is a predatory thing. They lie to get it, and feel nothing when it's over. Their impulse is to resort to violence to solve problems. They obviously get hurt, but don't care. Their society is one of savage hierarchy, where those above can hurt you, and you can hurt those below. This is not a pleasant way to live. They want immediate gratification. They can't work and save to get ahead. They have nothing while others around them have everything, and they blame everyone but themselves. They are not happy people. They see you as food. If you hesitate or give them a break, they see you as weak and stupid. They will kill you for fun, and treat your death as just a piece of firewood that's burned up. They don't live a full human life, and that is sad. But it's even sadder if they take yours. I still say those that think a fanny pack screams 'Gun!' have led a very sheltered life. Fanny packs were popular among tourists long before most states had CCW laws. Go to any theme park or any kind of tourist attraction and I'll bet you'll see more fanny packs than you can imagine. I know two or three major attractions in the St Louis Area, not counting Six Flags, where I can almost bet I'll see 10 - 15 people, or more, in the first 15 minutes I'm there with fanny packs and I'll bet not one has a gun in. Same goes for photographers vest, while I just got mine a couple of years ago, well before I got my CCW, I've known to many press and other professional photogs over the years who've used them for what they were designed for, carrying photo gear. I can carry almost as much in mine as I can in a big gadget bag and while just as heavy as the gadget back the weight is not on one shoulder. Also much easier to carry a water bottle, or two, in a reachable position.
As far those of you who say you can spot a person carrying every time. All I can say is I'd almost bet you'd be wrong AT LEAST 90% of the time. Contrary to popular opinion, on this forum and most others with a CCW slant, there actually are a good many people who pay attention to their surroundings who do not carry. I've spent a great deal of time hiking and biking with people who enjoyed watching what is going on in the world and these were in a major city, not out in the country. No, I learned along time ago most generalizations usually turn out to be wrong. Oh, btw, for the poster who said he watched a person in a parking lot following people back and forth. Did you bother to say anything to any security people? It is possible they might not have been in a position to see him, very few security people at a shopping center stay in one place very long, and the ones that do you won't spot. It is possible they either hadn't seen the person or might have known something you didn't know. I don't think very much of a person who says they saw suspicious activity but can't be bothered to alert any one about it. |

When this topic comes up, I just shake my head. The idea that in anyway allowing the presence of your weapon to be known to the general public at any time you are not using it to defend your life is a good thing is STUPID. It is not an issue with arguably reasonable positions on both sides. It is not debatable. It is not a matter of preference. Alowing the gun's presence to be known is UNFORGIVABLE FOOLISHNESS. The reasons why this is so are so legion that the mind boggles. The reasons are both unique to the individual, as well as applicable to the society. I have witnessed gunfights on U.S. streets that did not involve law enforcement or military. I have seen it up close and personal. I carry a gun legally daily, concealed and have been around many people who do likewise, or do so illegally. I have been within touching distance when the shit hit the fan, and I will tell you that not all criminals think a like or have the same objectives, and not all situations unfold the same way. The one thing you can count on if your weapon is well concealed but readily accessible is that you will have MORE OPTIONS EVERY TIME THAN THE IDIOT WHOSE GUN IS KNOWN. That is the main reason to remain concealed. Sometimes those options include not drawing the weapon and not being mistaken by other witnesses as one of the bad guys and having to deal with cops and emotional distress lawsuits, etc. when you were not even involved. Keep the gun concealed!

BULLBLEEP!! Ultimately, it is the fate of every civilized man to know with(in) himself he can pretend bravery, and most likely, never have it truely called to test. Between a man and a (Cape) buffalo, there is no pretense. |
