Just to see if it would be of any use, I tried something as an improvised sighting device on my 342PD this weekend. I temporarily vegetable glued a 2 inch long section of fiber optic rod (green, only color I had) that's 3/16" in diameter into the rear notch/top strap area. This of course, blocked view of the front blade, but put such a huge bright dot on top of the gun, that it was impossible to ignore. Accuracy was on the order of what I'd experienced in the past using an X/O Big Dot, 3"-4" @ 10 yards. Afterwards, I thought about some F/O shotgun beads I've seen in the past. Those that have a "sleeve" that extends past the sighting end of the rod. This, to force the aiming eye into alignment with the F/O bead, before light transmission is able to be seen.
Like I said, just for giggles. Sure seemed to work though? |

You may wish to consider a patent and do some R & D. Who knows, you may have a big seller on your hands, er, um, I mean guns.

Yeah R/D,
If I were to try it again, I'd just go with a turn or two of electrical tape in 2 places around the top strap. Hell, even in one place would hold it, if far enough back from the forcing cone. Blocking some of the light is the only down side doing it with the tape for trial. 'Course, too many turns of tape will tie up the cylinder? Transparent packaging tape could pass more light, but the adhesive on the stuff is a B***H to get off! I'm going to sniff around the Brownell's book, to see if they have a "shrouded" type (I mentioned above) that's short enough to fit the top strap area. Most of that type are pretty long though? |

Sure does J/S!
They just didn't have the benefit of a fiber optic rod to drop into the ditch, is all? Glad to know I wasn't completely whacked on the concept! (Well, at least no more "whacked" than usual?) |

I love the sight picture obtained with the fiber optic light pipe, but fragility is a problem. A light pipe that snaps in and out of a protective trench (like the guttesnipe) would be pretty good IMO.

I like your idea better than mine MAX!
Besides, it'd help suppress recoil! |

Wow, Max! When all the naughty girls see that in your pocket, they're going to love ya!!!!!!
Don't carry a gun because of what may happen today. Carry because once, just once, and at the least likely time imaginable, you may run into the worst monster you ever could imagine. Be their worst nightmare and resist them with all the stubbornness that our pioneer ancestors posessed. To do less is to be unamerican. |
