actually...crooks do pay attention..they evaluate "gun free" zones on their own terms. For example..if a GF zone has metal detectors, armed guards, and no obvious means of alternate escape, then they bad guys will choose an easier target. But if a GFZ jas nothing more than a sign up saying no guns...that's just bull in the eyes of a street smart kid. They will laugh at the silliness of it.

Unfortunately, it's not a news story, merely a reader's opinion.

Newspapers will rarely publish a story showing the defensive use of firearms in a positive light without equivocation. And you will NEVER seem them support the repeal or rejection of any gun control measures.

NO! Say it isn't so... (Maybe we need another law? Anybody got Chuck Schumer's number?)

I saw a gun free zone sign next the door of a local business the other day. It's the first time I ever saw one. I walked right in with two guns.........

What nerve; what disrespect. Actually, I'm right behind you. If I had to use my weapon to save my life (and probably by extension the shopkeeper's as well) in a commercial establishment, the least of my concerns would be any fallout from violating his silly no carry sign. And in the much more likely event that I never have to do that, they'll never know I'm carryn' anyway. All criminals will ignore the sign as well; the sign doesn't carry the force of any law, so what's the point of the stupid thing anyway?

Don't know where you are, but it does in Ohio. Carrying into a private establishment that posts is criminal trespass (a 4th class misdeamenor). And you do not have to be told to leave to be guilty, just walk past the sign knowingly.

All that said, I ignore them anyway. I will take my chances with 12 than be carried by 6.

yep, here in the Carolinas the sign is enforced by law. That said, there are places where I've not seen the sign either because of the way the doors are situated or they only post on the main entrance of the mall, or I just plain missed it when entering with numerous folks competing for the passageway. My intent was not to violate law, just didn't see it. I avoid places that post.. I avoid stupidity in general.
On those occasions when I might would find myself knowingly carrying in a posted place, I would promise myself not to pull my gun to defend the owner of the premise. Don't want to violate his rights. I'd sit calmly and watch robbers walk away with his cash, slap him around all they want, etc. As long as they just kept walking past me, there'd be no gun play.
my work frequently puts me in festival situations where 6 officers are supposed to be able to address several thousand drunk patrons tossing beer all over each other and screaming 'hell yeah" at the stage. Since I'm working, and behind the barrier, and will be there long after the crowd and the police have left, my gun is a normal part of my tool set. But if bad things broke out (and yes, we've had shots fired and people wounded at these events), then I'm running for cover along with the rest of the sheep. My gun has yet to come out to play as I've never been face to face with it for personal defense. But others in the crowd have been shot, and the perps actually escaped despite the uniforms present. But the risk for me to assist was far to great both in terms of causing more injury to bystanders, more panick, confusion for the police , and legal ramifications for myself. Being armed and actually engaging..2 different things...just like heeding the signs

"gun free" zones
All the mass murders/school shotings have been committed in "gun free" zones.
