I got busted like that once. I bought a new helmet to use at work because I didn't like the issued one. A buddy asked me in front of my wife how I liked it. Uhhhh......

Once they are in the safe, she usually does not know - i.e. need to know. My sister in law told her about a gun I purchased at a show - she was there also - so I showed her the same 29-2 go off at auction for $820 and I paid $570, so she was okay. I loaded up on ammo a couple of years ago - by the case, now the stuff is worth 60% more, etc. It's about communitcation.

Sounds like I am fortunate. We have been married for over 35 years and I have never had to seek "permission" to get anything I wished to purchase. As long as there was/is food on the table and the wolves are not at the door, I purchase what I wish and I use discretion in those purchases. Common sense has to prevail. Two more J-frames were just purchased and a case of ammo. Not a problem, as my wife waited patiently in the car for the deal to be sealed. And, we are both "retired"......

We've never had a problem with acquisitions. We're DINKS (double income, no kids), and can afford a few toys now and then. If one of us wants something, we get it, and there's no prior approval expected. We each have our own checking accounts and credit cards, and we each are responsible for certain monthly bills. I find it's a lot easier to work out of separate checkbooks. There's a lot less discussion. All of the accounts are joint, so either of us can pull up the balances online. There's no secrecy involved, we just trust each other. It's worked for almost 37 years.

I'm all for communnication - but confess I have left it in the trunk until a more opportune time. You know, discretion being the better part of valor. Smiler

that's funny KDM, but it's what my bud does too.. he'll find a deal he can't resist..get the thing and it might be a week or 3 months before the "opportune" time comes around. So I've had to learn not to bring up the topic of the "recent acquisition" until i know it's all-clear.
My wife and I share the gun safe as she has her own weapons..so she'd notice if something else was taking up space..not that I play that game with her..if I want something I give her the heads up and she's been mostly supportive. But I am at the point where she feels like we've got plenty of guns so bringing another one home would raise an issue and honestly I am happy..course there was that kimber eclipse in the used case last month..thank god somebody else jumped on it before I could get around to it (grin)

My wife allows me to have a couple old guns for my shooting pleasure. Lucky for me I can change them back and forth from stainless to blued, interchange barrel lengths, increase and decrease bore sizes at will, and magically turn the revolver into a semi-auto. I'm very handy when it comes to things like that. She does get frustrated when I can't remember the combination to the gunsafe.

Never met a "kept man" before. If anybody's "skeered" it ought to be you 'cause if she gets tired of your lazy ass and dumps you then what are you gonna do? Big Grin

I generally use such information to black-mail my friends into selling me some of their ammo or magazines at a bargain price...
