I am new to the CCW.. and will be getting a Sigma 40 REAL soon... as far as IWB carry ( I feel it hides better ) I have seen those with the butt at the belt line and some with it above.... which is easier for 1) ease of use( getting out when needed )

2) comfort
3) concealability

AGAIN my $$$$ situation isnt very good right now ( been out of work for a few months ) so cant afford anything REAL good.....

Thanks from N.E. PA

Do not go cheap, imho. Wait and save up to get a great belt and holster. In the long run, you'll save money. Great IWB accomplish both goals. Cheap ones do neither.

Alessi, Kramer, or other reputable makers.

Don't have a Sigma but can tell you that with my guns only the grips are above the beltline. This is quite good in that you can't finger the trigger 'til it is clear of the holster. It's also good for concealability, obviously.

I like j-hooks for IWB...very low profile. Like other posters relate, don't stint on a holster...buy quality...even if you must save up for a bit.

Be safe!

Call Bob Mika, he'll set you up with a great holster at a great price.

Don't carry a gun because of what may happen today. Carry because once, just once, and at the least likely time imaginable, you may run into the worst monster you ever could imagine. Be their worst nightmare and resist them with all the stubbornness that our pioneer ancestors posessed. To do less is to be unamerican.

If money is an issue, the suede Vega IWB holsters (available from some gunshops and via the internet) represent a decent value. They're sometimes found less expensively than comparable Galco models, and quality is similar.

It's generally better to buy a good belt and holster as Hoser suggests, but it's better to have second (or even third) best and have your gun with you than to have no holster.

Gator's right. I have a cheezy eight dollar Galati International IWB holster that I occasionally use to appendix carry my Taurus 605. It does the job, and I don't carry that way often, so I have no plans to upgrade.

The most comfortable IWB holster for me is a Dakota Defender by K&D Holsters. The quality is incredible and at $70 the price is hard to beat. Check them out at www.kdholsters.com.

The "felt" backing helps make it even more comfortable.

While it's inexpensive, my Galco IWB holster is not "cheap". For about $24, it's a re-enforced opening, cowhide leather, concealable holster.
Works for me.

schr8er2000,
I have the 40ve and use the relatively inexpensive ($35 + shipping) Bare Asset IWB holster from high Noon Holsters. It works great for me. The handle sits fairly low and is tucked in against my body. Very good product for the money, plus they stock that item (a lot of their other product is custom made) so it ships quickly.

Here is a shot of the pistol and holster.

Here is a shot of the combo in use. Ignore the belt, it is not my usual gun belt.

I can and have made do with inexpensive and/or poor quality holsters for IWB carry. If you are going that route, at least get a good quality belt. It will let you get everything there is to be had from whatever holster you use and will make a world of difference in comfort.

Also, many gunshops have holster boxes where a few dollars can can turn up surprizing finds in used holsters they have acquired in trades.

Big bang, much smash'em.

Yeah, the brown and black clash horribly! The responsible armed citizen is always fashion conscious, lol.

FWIW, I am a miserly college student and saved up for a Crossbreed Supertuck. Kydex and leather, I love it. Makes my Sigma 40 disappear. It was about $70. Great lifetime warranty, and a two week trial period. I highly recommend it.

+1,000,000

I will wear nothing else. Due to their wait time, I usually buy a kydex holster from Comp Tac to tide me over, but the plastic gets sold or goes into the box o' holsters once the K&D leather arrives.
