I have given this a little more thought and am starting to see this a little diferently. I carry a knife because I want to carry a knife and no other reason. If at some time I use it to defend myself or a family member so be it and I will deal with that if it happens. It is not illegal in the parts of the state where I go and I intend to do nothing illegal with it. Therefore I will not apologize for it, rights unused are rights lost. Jim.

I know very well what you are trying to say. You are saying that some knives appear to be somehow less offensive and won't get you arrested.

No, that's not what I'm saying.

I am saying that the possession of a butcher knife [my term], as you suggested, would be more likely, not less,

to get you in trouble --- in Illinois.

I explained why: Inferred intent, based on all the circumstances.

I may have mistakenly confused the issue earlier, but I am talking only in terms of possession.

In a knife fight, even the winner gets cut. My simple cane with the brass end will let me reach out and touch someone who is still a couple of feet out of touch with me. Keith/NRA Life
