As one who has long been a proponent of carrying a gun ON YOUR PERSON...usually strong side, OWB, I have often questioned those of you who pocket carry. However, in the last week, or so, I have simply stuffed my 642 in my rear pocket on occasion and ventured out into society.
Though it remains NOT my principal/preferred mode of carry, I can see some benefits inherent. Perhaps I will now even procure a pocket holster for it. Thus I stand corrected... Be safe. |

Ah just about everybody comes around eventually to pocket carry. Getting all holstered up every time you go out of the house gets to be a drag after a few years. Dropping a .357 Mag in your front pocket without even slowing down as your going out the door is hard to beat. Smitty |

As is evidenced by the "dropping the .32 Tomcat in the pocket to take out the garbage" thread, I, too, am prone to doing thus at times. When my new (to me) .32 comes to town, I'll invest in an Uncle Mikes clip-on IWB holster for the piece. This will make it convenient for short jaunts OTD without leaving the handgun at home. As the old American Experess avertisement used to state; "Don't leave home without it."

Ditto what Smitty said...
My M-642 is a daily carry piece too, whether it's in a back or front pocket, or holster. When working on the "North 40" in the summer it finds it's way in to the right back pocket of my Levi's quite frequently. In winter the right front Levi jacket pocket. MOONDAWG |

I like the smell of leather holsters. I like a snap so the gun can't fall out. I had a .22 minigun fall out of a tight fitting sock last week. No more of that. Maybe an ace bandage? For fun and pleasure, it's a leather holster worn behind my strong side hip, no matter the size or weight. As Mr. Bianchi wrote "one gun, one carry". And I buy that. Twice in my outdoors jaunts I have been suddenly "threatened". Both times I looked down and found a revolver in my hand that I didn't remember drawing. Muscle memory.
I sympathize with that easy, pocket philosophy. And S&W fleaweights are selling well. but I like the weight of my guns, it's comforting. I like to shoot without pain. And I don't like the idea of having to duct-tape my thumb back on after shooting a Scandium 6-ounce .454 Casull. KeithCarter NRA Life. |
