+1 for the Beltman. Jim is great and his belts are excellent. I have three. Each time he has been kind enough to let me stop by on short notice and pick them up in person. I wear one every day.

Have 2 Beltman belts, one sized for OWB and one for IWB. They are both double thickness. I couldn't be happier with them. They handle any holster I have, from j-frames to Sigs.

WOW you guys!
I just found this thread. I've been thinking of getting a real gun belt for a while. After reading this thread, I decided I'm going to order today from Beltman. I am going to order (I think) the Bull hide 1 1/2 for general, knock around use, and I also need a dress belt. I don't know about the different hides (appearance), but being an auditor/C.P.A. by profession, I can't get too flashy, just something professional and conservative looking for my suit/work apparel. Does the tapper really look that much better? Should I go with Bulls hide for both? I have absolutely NO fashion sense (Thank our Lord for my wife!!!)

Cayoot,
I would suggest the elephant hide belt. It will give you everything you could want in a carry belt, and it is handsome without being flashy.
I got one a few weeks ago, and I could not be more satisfied.
Best,
Gary

Cayoot, why don't you call The Beltman and ask them? I'm sure they'll steer you straight. They deal in gun belts all day every day. My SWAG is that IWB carry of anything up to the size of your 686 you could probably get by with a 1 1/4" belt.

Don't carry a gun because of what may happen today. Carry because once, just once, and at the least likely time imaginable, you may run into the worst monster you ever could imagine. Be their worst nightmare and resist them with all the stubbornness that our pioneer ancestors posessed. To do less is to be unamerican.

Thanks Guys!

Gary, thanks for the suggestion, but after looking closely (cuz it's so small) at my budget, I had to decide that the elephant was too expensive if I was going to order 2 belts.

Flop-Shank...I should have done that I think...in fact I will today (I just received an email from them telling me that today is my last chance to change my order).

However I had a full day planned and wanted to order before I left the house.

I ordered a 1 1/2 Bull hide and a 1 1/2 tapered to 1/14 horse hide (for work).

I've tried one other "gun belt" made by an on line holster maker. I was sorely disappointed. His holsters are everything I hoped they were, but the belt was no better (in my opinion) than a department store belt. Thus it just got tossed in with my other dept store belts. However, I had never heard an opinion on his belts, just his holsters....I should have thought that one through.

Oh well, everything I read here and on his web site tells me that the Belt Man produces exactly what I'm looking for.

I'm going to call his shop today for their opinion...hope they are open.

Thanks Guys

Got my 1 3/4 inch with stiffener Wednesday. Worn it every day since. What a BELT!!!
The thing is SO rigid, pulling on your jeans with the belt and holster laced up, is like stepping through a Hula Hoop! Locks up in the slots of my J frame pancake and minimalist slide for my 66, 696 and 1911'. Zero movement or sag. It's been so long since I've had a quality belt, I'd forgotten what one was like! Great product! Hell, carrying "more gun" is a breeze with this thing!

Wyatt, you're an ornery angel (I'm guessing that your wife will at least agree about the ornery part Wink). I got my 1 3/4" dual layer bullhide belt (no stiffener) on friday. It is phenominal. The 1 3/4" Army issue nylon belt I was using worked for IWB carry of a 5" N frame, but the Beltman belt is more comfortable and keeps things in place a little better, including my pants. The difference between the two belts is like the difference between a usable holster and a near perfect holster. Both will work, but the better one makes life more pleasant and will be considered money well spent. Thanks for bringing this great product to my attention.

Can you guys give me an idea of about how long it took from order to delivery?

I know the web site says minimum of 30 days, but I'm hoping that the actual time is less.

Cayoot,
It was almost exactly 30 days.
You'll love it, it's worth the wait!

I just got my Eagle Defender (OWB pancake) from Kevin Manely for my 3" Model 29. My 629 Mountain Gun does not work in it because the front sight hangs up on the holster (1" more of barrel).

After hearing so many good things about the Simply Rugged holsters, I think I am going to give one a try for my 4" Model 29s.
