Don't use or recommend SOB carry, 13.

Why? If you get knocked/fall on your back it will hurt...a lot. If you are down it is very difficult to access. Doesn't work well whilst sitting...and that's not just accessibility-wise.

Some are same reasons why smart LEO's don't wear cased handcuffs or other gear in SOB.

Be safe.

I tried it with a Glock 27 for about a week. I just couldn't get used to it. It was very uncomfortable while driving and I never saw the advantage of carrying there.

Hard to sit, or drive. You certainly don't want to fall on it. You will probably cover your strong side leg when you draw.

I always thought that the disadvantages outweighed the advantages.

It has it's place.
I carried a Model 38 Bodyguard in an elastic waistband holster snuggled in the small of my back when I worked an airport detail and was on my feet 99% of the time.
If you anticipate sitting down at all, either in a chair or a car, it's uncomfortable as hell.

Another drawback to those already given is that weapon retention is extremely difficult to maintain.

Its also pretty easy for your covering garment (shirt, short jacket) to hike over it and get stuck without you knowing it. Kind of like having a "KICK ME" sign on your back, but worse.

Ditto. However, SOB retention is much enhanced if the gun butt is turned down. This can be accomplished to a degree with a weakside crossdraw holster. You must be careful not to sweep the leg, but the hold on the gun is much stronger due to the sideways rolling of the wrist as opposed to bringing the wrist into firing position with the weak upward motion necessary when using the typical SOB holster. While it has it's faults, SOB carry probably has a place if one is working behind a counter. Better yet, behind a bar. Big Grin

If in the unlikely circumstance, you are the victim of a gun grab or in a struggle, you are forced to defend your gun with you starting out in a virtual hammer lock..

NOT GOOD!!!

Sure, that shot of the chic with the nice butt in the Galco ad looks cool with her SOB but like the kid on the youtube video in school with 12 guns in his pants...anything works if you are just standing in one spot...kind of like the guys who say 6" N-frames carry fine IWB... Wink

I carry a 5" full underlug N frame and the more I carry it the more comfortable it gets. All it takes is the right set up. Have you ever tried an N frame IWB for more than two hours? Maybe it just doesn't work for you, but you can't tell me it doesn't work, or conceal well, because I do it all the time.

Don't carry a gun because of what may happen today. Carry because once, just once, and at the least likely time imaginable, you may run into the worst monster you ever could imagine. Be their worst nightmare and resist them with all the stubbornness that our pioneer ancestors posessed. To do less is to be unamerican.

Tried that once. Maybe my Mexican was just too heavy, but it didn't work out for me... Big Grin

I tried a 4 inch M64 today IWB, fits well. Carried Mexican style just to get a feel. I think I may be coming around to your point of view. Cool
May be awhile, or never, before I try an N frame IWB though. But ya never know. Wink
By the way, regarding the SOB carry, it's actually a friend who plans on carrying a CZ83. I told him that the gun was too big for a 380, and he should get a small 9 or 45. He never listens anyway. In addition he has herniations at L4-L5 and L5-S1. Roll Eyes
