I carry my J iwb and sometimes apex (front at 1 o'clock) so I want the most compact and concealable (and wood or composite -- no rubber). Since it's airweight, I want some palm-filling capabilities so seems like these two come up the most. Anyone own or have experience with both? Opinions of how they compare?

Spegels work best for me. Ahrends grips are nice, though, and might fit your hands better than Spegels would. Without trying them on for size, you won't likely know which will work best for you.

Have you considered factory wood and a Tyler T-Grip?

Ahrends does not like to checker his revolver grips, although the fill the hand nicely. I like Spegels alot, but they get pricey if you want nice wood (grade)and checkering. Hougue has a bantam boot grip (getagrip.com) in several woods as well. T grips are cool, someone on the site has them in stock. I worry they might mar the bluing on my guns(I'm probably wrong). Esmerelda grips are nice also, but J frame grips are usually sold out. If you have never been to her site you should visit, she posts pictures of the grips you will purchase and everything is beautiful.

Altamont grips might be worth a look. If they don't have good pictures on their site, go to www.handgungrips.com . If there aren't good pics of J boot grips, look at them in the K/L size.

As my learned brother in the law says, what works best for you can only be determined by you. I personally prefer Spegels to Ahrends, but I don't use either of them on my Js: those most commonly have factory wood and a T-grip.

I'll never have another revolver without Hogue grips.

I've held J Frame Airweights with Ahrends But have never shot one side by side with the Spegels to compair..
I'm looking for another set of Grips for my recently aquired 342Ti & it came with pretty Dymondwood grips factory, For now it wears them but will eventualy score another set of High Horned Spegels, They help you grab higher on the Centennials than any any other grip I've come across so far..

Are Spegels the same thickness as Ahrends? I'd like to have the thinnest and most compact between the two.

I love the stock grips on the middle gun but those high horn grips look great too. I actually prefer the Houge rubber boot grip myself.Why dont you like the rubber, worried about snagging?

I believe the grips on the middle gun are the factory diamondwood boot grips. The guns on either end are the aftermarket grips, with the high horn.

The only wood grips that have never broken skin between my thumb and trigger finger are Ahrends. You can be guaranteed that they won't feature any sharp edges where they meet the frame.

Well, those Ahrends definately look slimmer than Spegels. How is recoil control since they seem pretty slim?

And yes, rubber grips get uncomfortable next to skin and are grabby with clothing.

In The Pic Above the revolver on the left is my 940 with BTS Cocobolo Centennial Spegels, The Center revolver is a 342Ti wearing factory Dymondwood grips, & the revolver on the right is a 642 with STD Cocobolo High Horn Centennial Boot Grips..
I've got a set of Uncle Mikes/Spegel Copies on my 342Ti currently & have been looking for some Nice replacements because I don't care for the sharp edge area what would be a thumb rest on the Dymondwood Grips..Also there's not as much grip to get ahold of compaired to the Spegels..
The other set in the forground are also factory Dymondwoods that were on Loan to me From DC7, I struck a deal with him & they are now reside in storage with the original Owner/Gun.. Thanks Dan
I may order a set of Kim Ahrends grips to try on my 342Ti as the Spegels are pricey but you kinda do get what you pay for as far as grips are concerned, not that inexpensive choice grips don't come around, because they do..
I've talked with Kim Ahrend & Tom aka TA @ TopGun Supply about getting a Set of The Ahrends & for $60 there looking very good..
I had Tom Go Through the Ahrends He has for the J Frame RB & this pic is some of the nicer looking ones He has/had in stock..
I realy like the looks of the Top/Upper Set..
