Always use a pocket holster. With that being said, you can always improvise. I've used a folded bandana before.

You may want to check your state's regs. In Georgia the CCW law requires a holster, even for pocket carry.

Yep, what he said. Covering the trigger guard with a good holster is high on my list too. You don't want to pull a Barney Fife and torch that thing off when It's still in your pocket!

A holster is unnecessary the way I do it - Barami Hip-grips and Tyler T-grip adapters. Slick, easily grasped, no holster to worry with. With the 640, no lint to worry about. With the 649, any slight accumulation is easily cleaned out when the gun is put away.

Can't say enough good things about the Mika pocket holster - custom made, very inexpensive, perfect fit, stays in your pocket on every draw, awesome concealment. Search this forum for "Mika" and you'll see plenty more converts.

With my advancing age, I must have become a lot more safety conscious (AD/ND paranoid?) and have started using these pocket holsters, or scabbards, in the last five years or so.

They do add bulk, but I just feel better with the gun in one, and they usually help keep the gun oriented more consistently. It's a trade off - I guess with more pluses than minuses.

LaP: I'm curious, why did you change from the Nemesis to the Galco? I was under the impression that the Nemesis was superior to the Galco. If you weren't satisfied with the Nemesis, Desantis has a new pocket holster out now that they say is even better than the Nemesis.

Make mine a Mika's. Excellant holster, and he is a great guy.

Goodtime Charlie:
Sorry to take so long to respond to your question. I used the Nemesis for about a year with my 642. The holster is designed for 2 1/4 inch barrels and it made the 1 7/8 inch 642 ride high in my pocket. I used to perform the "Nemesis Chop", where I trimmed off the bottom of the holster to make it sit lower...it worked, but it looked cheap. The Galco pocket holster fits my pockets just fine and also has a reinforced opening. For $20 bucks, I like the Galco.

Why did you choose the round one over the 'square' one? Does it have anything to do with the round vs. square butt of the gun, or is that irrelevant?

In any event, does it print less than the square holster? What's your reason?

BTW, my grips are Pachmayr for the model 49 J-frame.

Thanks in advance.
