I'm not a fan of rubber grips in general - I like the look and feel of nice factory wood - but I just put a pair of LG-405s on a new Model 640, and they feel great.
I think the laser has its benefits. First, as a training tool it is really great. Put that dot across the room on something and see how you move when you fire DA. A lot of shooters think they can't shoot the J because its got a short barrel and fixed sights. The laser will tell you if your trigger pull is all you think it is. I don't see a big time delay while you "position the little red dot". You can use the gun identically to any other situation - point and shoot right away. The laser turns on without you consciously having to do anything, and the visual cue is a big plus if you have to shoot from the hip or in a manner you are not extensively trained it. It's not like you use this laser to put on the bad guy's forehead while he has a hostage and go all SWAT on him. It's just a nice instant confirmation, and a major help in many lighting situations. If putting a laser on a gun affects the way you draw/aim/shoot in a defense situation then you are relying on the laser too much. |

This account displays the ability of a laser to defuse a situation, it was originally posted here
http://www.naaminis.com/discus/messages/155/4235.html?1200856578 "The only time I ever pulled a gun on someone was back in '99. I was working as a chef at a micro brewery (at that time I was carrying a Glock 26 9mm w/a laser sight), I had just clocked out and leaving the building. Outside I found my boss playing bouncer w/a drunk patron that I guess didn't think he'd had enough to drink yet. They were arguing when said drunk guy decided to pull a knife. I calmly pulled the Glock from my cc fanny pack and put the laser crosshairs on his chest. Needless to say his eyes about popped out of his head, he folded his Buck back up, put it away and left w/out saying a word. I did catch a little flack from management at first (omg! a gun in our building?), but after that I quickly became the one they asked to stay late when the girls were counting cash ." |

Here is a free offer from Crimson Trace.
DVD and Catalog. http://www.crimsontrace.com/Home/FreeDVDOffer/tabid/316/Default.aspx Any of these pointing devices should not replace practice with sights and point shooting with and w/o the laser. It is just another tool that may very well give me the unfair advantage in a PD situation. I like the grips on a J Frame in any event. One of these days I would like to try a set of 305s on the J frames. Tarpon Springs FL and East TN |

I've got them on my 340 M&P and they're great. I disagree with the concept of "you're shooting me" while I "look" for the red dot. That presupposes that you have no training without the sights.
In a gunfight, I want EVERY advantage at my disposal and the CT sights are just another advantage. A belly gun it is and I'll have 3 rounds headed your way before I even think laser sighting. Training. |

The purchase of the LG405 was the second best I made for CCW, the best purchase being a 340PD to put them on!

I was thinking of having my 442-2 engraved, but after seeing all that wear, I guess not!

Years ago, we used to shoot for money at the club. Nothing organized, just side bets for anything that came to mind. I won a fair amount of money from people who thought snubs weren't accurate......... I have CTs on three guns. They work very well for point shooting and for weapon retention. I don't have to stick it out in front of me to acquire a sight picture, so it's immune to a grab. I can rest my forearm against my side or hip for better control. Best of all, it's sneaky. I can get a round off from hiding, like under a table without anyone noticing, and do it accurately. Police agencies are beginning to authorize them for duty as well. I’m thinking about purchasing a set of the lg305’s for my mother she is in her 70’s not a very good shot. I figure it would make for a good home defense gun on a Jframe I will go look at a set of the 305’s in the morning she likes One of the J frames I have & so does my wife So I will have to pick up another Jframe.
Anyone using the lg305’s I notice some are using the lg405’s Since the revolver won't be used for ccw I figure the 305's are the way to go Any thoughts? |

That recoil back strap on the LG405 made all the difference in the world to me. My 11.5oz 340PD w/LG405 is much more comfy to shoot then my 21oz 640-1 with wood grips. I would buy the LG405 just for the recoil feature alone without a need for the laser. As for the earlier comment about Laser being a crutch or for the non-elite. There is a big difference between using a laser on a self defence CCW rig which is why mine has a laser vs a tactical situation where you're likely to have a shoot out with a perp. I tried a lasermax on my Glock27 and hated it, I shot better without it. So while Lasers are not anywhere near as important as the ability to use the gun properly, they can be a great addition for the right reasons IMHO Bobby 340PD, 325PD, 66, Glock27, 640-1, M&P9C |
