It doesn't "have" to, but it is safer.

How is it "safer"???

Finger off trigger and out of guard is off trigger and out of guard regardless of where it is. Now you may feel more comfortable or prefer that placement, but that is subjective and is not any "safer".

YES to the CT however train without it first using only the sights and once you have mastered that then use the CT. Too many people think the laser is the answer for increased marksmanship. It's not. It should be secondary.
good luck

The CT makes it possible to shoot accurately from either a weapon retention position or with the weapon concealed. For instance, one could be seated at a table and shoot with the weapon under the table where the BG couldn't see it. There are lots of possibilities, and I find it interesting and informative to run through scenarios in places I happen to be while out and about. Stealth Is Good......

It's interesting to see who plays the "macho" card, "It's a crutch", etc. instead of standing back and looking at the big picture. Mas Ayoob approves, and that's good enough for me. It works. Period.

Most of the GIs in Iraq use a similar device, except it's an infrared laser that is mounted on the rifle. At night, wearing night vision goggles, you simply put the green dot on target and squeeze a few off.......

They work well by sighting, but it's not a primary consideration with a J-frame unless you have a three inch or the five inch Model 60. I'm looking forward to a six-shot, five inch Model 60 in .327 MAG. Big Grin

Oh my, the Luddites are out in force tonight!!

Ultimately, it is the fate of every civilized man to know with(in) himself he can pretend bravery, and most likely, never have it truely called to test. Between a man and a (Cape) buffalo, there is no pretense.

If the Internet had been around when the new fangled Automatic Transmission was invented for the automobile it would have created a similar discussion. People said it would never be dependable and was a total waste of money.

This topic has been beaten to death. If you don't believe in lasers, don't buy one. Usually the people who complain the most have never even shot a laser equipped weapon. It's just what they perceive the laser to be.

If they are good enough for the guys in Iraq, they are good enough for me. Period!

I like laser sights as a training aid. If you are milking, flinching, or otherwise pulling your aim off, the laser dot will let you know. That is true even for pieces larger than a J-frame. I have been known to put a laser on the rail on my Sig P226 and P220 while I am dry firing, just to make sure that my technique is right.

My buddy let me try his laser sights at the range. That's when I learned I shouldn't drink four cups of coffee before shooting! Wink
