Those grips are so close in design as to be nearly identical. Hurst may have something there over Hogue (also retired LAPD) with the checkering in the palm area. How about that. LAPD grips. They certainly do improve the handling and control of a J-frame. Finally. something out of California the rest of the nation can cling to besides lettuce, tomatoes and salmonella.

California gave us Ronald Reagan. Big Grin It's been a while though.

Casingpoint, I use it with jeans, Dockers and kakhi shorts. It just seems to work everywhere. I noticed that the illustration you used appeared to be a Walther PPK? I've never seen that one. I use it with a snubby Smith J frame.

I had John Hurst to make grips for both a square butt K-frame Smith and a round butt J-frame back in the mid-seventies. They are very nicely done.

John Hurst and Guy Hogue were long time friends and LAPD officers. Both reportedly started out "wood-working" in their garages. John taught Guy HIS craft, thus the strong resemblance between the two products.

I discussed all this information with Guy Hogue's son at the NRA Annual meeting in Louisville recently and he confirmed what I ALREADY knew about them and their early grip making days.

Thanks for that, Captain38. As they were both cops making gun grips, their "research and development" efforts appear to have resulted in excellent, if not superior products.

A question about a Mika round bottom. I noted a 1 7/8" bbl in my order. Would it make much of a difference with a 2" bbl J frame?

I highly doubt it. I carry my 2 1/4" Taurus 605 in the same Mika PH that I sometimes use for my 1 7/8" 360 PD.

I actually just got off the phone with Mr. Mika. After reading this thread, I was convince that I needed to try his product out with my Centennial J-frame. He was a very nice guy to speak with, and I have no doubt that I will be pleased with the holster when it arrives, based on the accolades posted here.

I will stop back to report when it gets here. Thanks to the OP for starting this thread.

I have a Mika pocket holster but I use my Uncle Mike's pocket holsters instead. The Mika is made very well but it's bigger in my pocket than the Uncle Mikes.
