Here is a good one for you. I just got home from the range. I still had my S&W 686 holstered on my side, decided to spray the lawn for crab grass before I went in. I was in the garage mixing up the concoction, had a couple of cold ones, went out to get started. I was spraying away and heard someone say excuse me! I looked up it was the county prosecutor, passing out his campaign materials. I laughed and said don't mind this 357 on my side I just got back from the range. He laughed and said thats OK, don't worry about it.......

WTF? Confused
I'm hoping the cold ones were soft drinks. Otherwise refer to ORC 2923.15.

I'm must admit they were not soft, see what happens when you think you can skirt the law just between your garage door and back door. I had no ammo on me, I usually do my cleaning and then holster, go in the back door and drop them off in the safe. I don't keep ammo in the house except for the house gun, thats tuked away. I still bet he was taken aback when he saw it on my side, I just can't imagine he is anywhere close to pro-gun, well except during election year. Oh! that sounds like some other politicians I've heard lately. (No names).

I believe you were within your curtilage, so it's the same as if you were in the house. You're not in public until you leave your immediate property.

I never keep a loaded handgun nearby if I knew I were going to drink alcohol; it's a pain to wait until after I've cleaned all firearms upon returning from the range before enjoying a cold beer--especially in the summertime--but such rules should be inflexible.
The only exception was the Friday night I returned to my apartment from work after having a few beers with co-workers to find the crime scene unit and two homicide detectives awaiting to talk to me regarding a "death investigation that is not a suicide" of my downstairs neighbor. I told the detectives I was in shock about the death and had been drinking earlier; they told me not to worry at all, they do the same thing (probably while armed). That night I loaded my handguns for the first time after consuming alcohol. It was difficult to sleep soundly until the suspect was arrested across the country a few days later.

It's funny but I often enjoy a beer while cleaning guns or reloading ammo.

Yea, but once the guns are nice and clean I reload them. I wouldn't want to do that after relaxing from a few drinks on a summer afternoon. I would just become too complacent.

Good thing we all react differenty to the same amount of alcohol.

Kudos to you for knowing and respecting your limitations. But one or two beers do not incapacitate me to the point where I cannot safely load a store a firearm and then leave it be.

The gun I was carrying around the yard that evening is never loaded around the house. It is my range fun gun. The house gun was already loaded and secured in the house. I just found it amusing of all people to coming calling, it would be the vote seeking prosecutor of our city. The good part was he could not see the weapon from the direction he approached until I turned toward him to shake his hand. I was on the jury a while back, on a case where they escorted us to our cars, so I recognized him right away as the prosecutor....thats rest of story!

I believe it was Dillinger who said to never trust a woman, District Attorney or semiautomatic pistol. Those are still words to live by today.

I'm happy to say our DA is not only a life member of our shooting club, but he is also our Chief CCW instructor. He attends/shoots many of the area wide steel plate and bowling pin matches. A GREAT guy.

I do too. Each of us has a different tolerance towards alcohol, and if you don't know your tolerance, then you should not drink period.

At 6'3" and 310 lbs, the only affect that a few beers has on me is to make me burp a couple of times.

I confess though, I won't break out the bourbon until the guns are put away.
