Because my daddy did, and I could when I came of age.

My daddy was a saucier, and my grandfather was a saucier... I was supposed to go to Paris to study...

I came from a background where a man was expected to be able to protect himself and his family. I always took my .357 or Colt Commander with me when I traveled as a young man. I became a LEO when I was in my twenties. I started to carry concealed then. I got used to it and felt uncomfortable without one on me since. It has come in handy a time or two to prevent violence...

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Wink
As a US Army brat in Germany about 1960, my father declared it was time to take his sons to see Dachau. It was his second visit - his first having been in the Spring of 1945. After a day of seeing blood stains, and many photos of piles of bodies, I asked him how that many people could let that happen to them. He said, they didn't have guns, but the Nazis did.

It took another 45 years or so to realize that when I was out and about, I was in pretty much the same situation as all those people in the pictures.

Recently, some nut job here in Austin, TX walked into a movie theater in a mall, fired one into the ceiling and left;. He was caught several blocks away in the bathroom with multiple weapons and ammo. This is the same mall and movie theater where my wife and kids go. If that doesn't inspire you, here is something wrong in you.

Regards,

Dave

About a year ago I was at one of my apartment complexes that I manage in the evening. I noticed three young men walking down the street eyeing a bicycle that one of my tenants left outside of her door. I just paused and waited to see what they were going to do. Sure enough, one of the boys jumped on the bike. I yelled at him to leave and his two buddies came running in my direction. Figuring I was about to be in a fight I pulled my Buck knife from my pocket ready for what was about to happen. Two of the boys immediately ran off after seeing my knife. One boy, about nineteen, lifted his shirt so that I could see that he had a small automatic handgun and made the comment about “bringing a knife to a gunfight”. I immediately backed off and very politely asked him to leave as I wanted no trouble. I was mortified as my wife and two small children were watching. Since then, I always have my model 60 with Gold Dot’s in an IWB holster. I feel very fortunate that things did not escalate further but I assure you I will never again bring a knife to a gunfight.
