Anybody heard of these guys?
Friday one of our managers brought a flier into work and gave it to me, asked if I'd heard of them or was a member. I hadn't and am not, but he knows that myself and several others in the company go shooting. A close few know that I have my Concealed Handgun License, but I don't broadcast that fact. FWIW I question some of the language on the flier, specifically stating that CCW holders using members as bait to lure criminals. Seems to me that a person could well find themslelves prosecuted after a deadly force encounter. Our law states that you can't be the agressor or escalate an encounter. Also, Castle Doctrine will not go into effect until September 8, so as of this moment a persons first duty is to retreat if possible. Any thoughts or information anyone here would care to share? |

Most of these NDL "mall ninja" wannabes will soon be in jail, dead, or, more likely, soiling themselves upon being confronted by a real bad guy.
Be safe. |

How much does their liability insurance cost and which law firm's retainer can they afford? Other than being a really dumb idea, it's a great idea and sure to reduce armed robberies.

Common misconception is that Ohioans have a duty to retreat while in their residences. Not so, according to ORC 2305.40 which has been the law since March of 1997. All the recent changes do is move the burden of proving that deadly force was justified from the accused to the state, as it should be; and add one's vehicle as another place where there is no duty to retreat from. Also note that the duty to retreat from a confrontation in public places is still in place. That comes from case law including at least one state Supreme Court decision. As for that poster, I would not be associated with that group in any way, shape, or form. I wouldn't even give the impression to anyone that I was associated or approved of it. Couple of good ways to get a felony by doing what that poster suggests. Las armas son necesarias Pero nadie sabe cuando; Asi no, si andas paseando, Y de noche sobre todo, Debes llevarlo de modo Que al salir, salga cortando. Martín Fierro |

Who's to know whether someone is associated with them? There's obviously no paper trail, no membership cards, you can't ask to belong. Read the fine print. It's just a notice that there are legally armed people on the street now.

Yo, the fine print says "join us." I wouldn't join any group that endorses "our own sort of justice." Those who do are just as bad as the hoodlums they oppose. Be safe. |

Well, to begin with, I ain't "yo". That's street talk.
That poster's intended to scare the bad guys and encourage them to go elsewhere. There's no such organization, and I don't take it seriously for a minute. I suspect the cops don't either. NRA Benefactor Member Life member Mich. Antique Arms Collectors Member Ohio Gun Collectors Assoc. |

Let’s say for a minute it’s real.
In the eyes of a thug it may seem like a threat, an invitation to rumble they are though guys in their minds with ultra ego’s and reputations to up hold, now they have just been challenged by a new rival in public. On the organizations part it reads as a promise to vigilante justice and surly a guarantee to more neighborhood violence. I citizen group to stay away form, unless you don’t mind a first year public defender defending you on a murder rap, where your words publicly solicit violence. |

Ummm, hello JBONES. What a great user name.
Wyatt- Thanks for info. I was misinformed. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the new law also take away your civil liability if someone is injured/killed at your hands in a justified act of self defense? Apparently at least two news organizations are taking it seriously: WTAM a news/talk radio station and one of the local TV stations, according to what turns up in a google search. |
