Is there a casing-activated powder measure compatible with a Lee Turret Press that accurately measures small loads for pistols? The 3.0 disk (smallest in the kit) drops 3.2 grains of W231, when I'd like 3.0 grains. Neither the 3.0 disk nor the Adjustable Charge Bar will measure 2.7 grains of Bullseye, and the Micro Disk catalogue entry says it measures only up to 2.5 grains.

You could get a Micro Disk if you are using the Lee Auto Disk. Scroll down on the page.
Oops, the micro disk only goes up to 2.5 gr of bullseye. You may need the double disk kit instead pictured right below the micro disk. __________________________ "I contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle." I get 2.9-3.0 Bullseye with the 32 disk. The 30 ought to be pretty close to 2.7.

there is also an adjustable disk available. Eliminates the need for changing disks all together except on large volumes of bulky powder (it drops inconsistently then).
I have one and love it. Its one fantastic tool for load development as you just turn the knob untill its droppin the next charge you want. http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=150005 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cant load ammo fast enough to keep the guns fed. Old data is only old because it was printed before the laywers got out of hand. |

You switched gears a time or two there with powder types. Exactly what are you trying to do?
It isn't case activated but the old Lyman #55 will give you any amount of powder you want. I have one on my Lee Turret Press. It's not a progressive but it is faster than reloading on a single stage press and I can make a load from .1 grains of Bullseye to 60 grains of WC820. If I want a certain loading I just dial it in, period. If you are loading Bullseye there should be a disk that measures 2.7 grains as Lee himself was a Bullseye Competition shooter. Are you trying to duplicate a certain load or get a load that works in your firearm? Just wondering. mutski,
I use the Lee Auto Disk Adjustable Powder Charge Bar with my Lee Turret. I have only loaded for handguns and I only use it. The disks did not work for me. See shovelwrench's link.... |

OK, I tried Bullseye in the .30 disk, and it measures a very consistent 2.8 grains. I didn't think it would work, since the adjustable charge bar wouldn't measure quantities that small (nor will it measure small quantities of W231 accurately). Aside from that, though, I wish I could fine-tune loads the way you can with the adjustable charge bar, which alas you can't with the disks. Is there are automatic powder measure that will fit the turret press and allow fine adjustments? Or must I resort to stacking disks?

The Pro Autodisk is actually a pretty good powder measure, and about idiot-proof (I can always find a way to screw up). Just for grins I considered adapting a LNL measure, but when I worked out the bucks it was apparent that it made more sense to buy a new LNL AP press, which I did. Net cost is about the same.

Just remember that the Lee chart is optimistic, the disks throw lighter charges when you actually weigh them.

I use the Lee Adjustable Charge Bar in all of my Auto Disk Powder Measures. Messing with those disk are a lot of trouble. You don't have to remove the hopper to make changes with the charge bar. And they're cheap and on the old measures you don't have to worry about stripping out the screws in the old type hoppers from removing it so many times.
http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=150005 For large casings that require more powder than the adjustable charge bar will drop I set it for half the amount and double pump the lever at that station on my turret press for a double charge that gives the the correct ammount. For your specific need, I suggest you buy a mcro disk set and go to work with a dremel. Or, conversely, add a dab of epoxy. IOW, set up one disk with custom measures for exactly the (Bullseye) charge you want.
I use the Lee adjustable charge bars almost exclusively in my Lee measures, and it is true it does NOT work well below about 3.0 grains of 231 and, quite likely, bullseye. Jim H. |
