The issue of whether the bullets are swaged or hard cast is critical for load selection. I loaded 250 grain Speer swaged lead SWC bullets just one time with hard cast bullet data in my S&W 25-2. I had to drive the six cases out of the gun with a dowel. To keep things safe and sane I'll quote the current loads from the Speer Reloading Manual number thirteen (I'm aware there is a 14 out there but I didn't see enough difference to buy one, sorry.) Herco 6.6 gr, 842 fps; Blue Dot 9.0 gr, 824 fps; Unique 6.2 gr, 824 fps; HS-6 7.8 gr, 787 fps; SR4756 6.7 gr, 782 fps. Starting loads are about a half grain less in each case. I'd forget the swaged lead bullets and go with hard cast, there is so much more good data out there for them. As to bullet profile, I'd load the cylinder with six of the best performace loads, whatever that is in your opinion. Worry about shape with the reloads only. I use truncated cone Hornady 230 grain FMJ with full moon clips as my carry load and two full moon clips of 230 grain FMJ-RN as reloads. For dedicated hunting I use a 255 grain cast SWC for pigs or big stuff or 200 grain JHP for deer. Tennessee requires soft nose bullets for hunting, which I would pick in any case. The hard cast bullets aren't really soft nose, but they are lead so I hope I'm under the enforcement radar.
