I'm trying to find a load for my 625-3 4" (.45ACP) using N310 and/or N320 powder and a 230gr Frontier CMJ to get about a PF of 175.

With 5.2gr/N320 (max listed by Viht) my PF = 163.78. I have just looked in the Lee manual and it lists 5.5gr as max.

With 4.2gr/N310 (max listed by Viht) my PF = 155.

Any help would be appreciated.

I use 310 for target loads, but I think you're better offer with N340 or N350 if you need full power. N350 can reach 1000fps out of 4".

Sounds to me like a maximum, or slightly under max load of 320 will get you there. Wouldn't mess with 310 much for full-power loads. My limited experience with it leads me to believe that it's a bit brittle on the high end.

4.0 N-310 gave me 170PF out of my 625-3 5" barrel. It is a nice, clean, soft-shooting load.

BTW, where do you now buy Frontier plated bullets? My supplier no longer has them.

As a point of reference, 310 is faster burning than Bullseye so yes it can get brittle on the high end IN A HURRY. I used 310 for my 25 yard Bullseye load with a 200 gr. SWC but I would not think of using it for full power loads. 330 or 340 would work better and be safer to my way of thinking for the type of load in question.

I use 310 in my 32 long with 1.7 grs. does a great job. I think you would want to use the 320 for the 45 for a hotter load instead of the 310.

I've already decided that N310 isn't the way to go.

I've got 24rds of 5.5gr/N320 loaded to chrono.

I get my Frontiers from Marstar in Vankleek Hill, ON.

Thanks for the replies guy's.
