I ordered several thousand .45 Auto Rim Cases from Starline a week or so ago. They told me they would run them again in a couple or three weeks (a week or so from now).

If you have a 625, you might want to get your order in (these are only run periodically).

You should be fixed for a long while. Far as I can tell, in revolvers you can load AR and acp cases so many times they need hip replacements and viagra long before they split or the primer pockets get loose.

Remington periodically does a run as well.

I might mention that ordering direct from Starline seems to give me the best price. It is currently $150.75 per thousand. I will be sharing with a couple of friends. 1000 will keep a feller going for quite a while.

The Starline .45AR brass is excellent. I highly recommend.

one thing for sure about starline brass - you don't have to ream the flash hole or square up the primer pocket. they're fine from the factory.

starline is all i use anymore. too bad they don't make .223 brass...

Sorry, they are all spoken for. Midway has them for less than $23.00 per hundred. However, if you can buy 500 from Starline, you'll save quite a bit (I believe their price includes shipping?)

Starline has informed me that there has been a delay in shipping the .45 Auto Rim cases. The delay can be as much as six weeks after mine were due. So, if that is true, I should have them in a couple more weeks. I have my fingers crossed...

Again, if you are interested or are GOING to be interested, you might want to get your order in. It may be a while before they run them again.

I received my .45 Auto Rim cases from Starline, today. If any of you still need Auto Rim cases, now should be a VERY good time to order. They have just run them and should have some ahead. Otherwise, you may have to wait a couple of months to get any.

They sure are "purty" . I had planned on loading them up tomorrow, but unfortunately, I have a trip to the Endodontist for a root canal tomorrow . Guess which I had rather been doing?

Of course, tomorrow morning I will again be working on the clean-up from Hurricane Ike (in Southern Ohio, yet ). Of course, I'm not complaining, the poor folks in Texas have really been hit hard. Ours is just a fraction of the damage they suffered in Texas. Of course, the four people that were killed in this area would probably not agree with that assessment...

But seriously, what is the point? Moonclips work really well! What reason is there for 45AR? Several people here I respect load it. Please explain it to me.

One of our members had arranged with Starline to produce .38-44 cases with large primer pockets. When it came time to put up the dough a lot of people backed out. Drat. But at least they were willing to do it, for a large enough run.

A lot of shooters do not like to fool with moonclips. Originally, Peters (I believe) came out with the 45AR case post WWI when a lot of people were shooting 1917 colts and S&Ws. At that time Half-Moon clips were what the military used. The advantage of the moon clip is speed of re-loading the gun the disadvantage is needing a clip for every six rounds or having to fiddle with a de-mooner. I use both moonclips and AR in my 625s. Sometimes I feel like a moon, sometimes I don't.

Fooling with moonclips is a bother and AR is just, well, more satisfying. On the other hand I have to buy AR cases, but have a limitless free supply of once-fired acp. Through various gun deals I've accumulated about 150 moonclips, and can't justify not using them, so I keep 408 rounds clipped, in baggies, ready to go to the range at a moment's notice. For experimenting and load development, I prefer the stubby little rimmed cases.

Here's an interesting (and ridiculous ) item regarding Ohio's revised "Concealed Carry" law:

If you have an empty gun in your car, whether locked in a case or not, if you have loaded magazines or speed loaders, you can be charged with a felony for improperly transporting a weapon. You are allowed (now) to have a loaded gun in the car, but it must be in a holster attached to your body (that is, if you have a proper CCW license).

I recently attended a class (run by our local friendly attorney) wherein the new changes in concealed carry were explained. There is much to like in the new version but also some things NOT to like (the anti-gunners in the Ohio House are always sticking their fingers in and messing things up).

At any rate, if you live in Ohio, please, please, closely check into the new provisions of CCW. And do NOT pre-load magazines to carry with you to the range with either pistol OR rifle (nor speed loaders [other than on your person] nor, I would expect, moon clips). Crazy but could get you charged with a felony if you get that one LEO out of a hundred who might jump on this.

Back to topic:
I MUCH prefer using Auto Rim cases when shooting at the range. Of course, if I were practicing for any of the Speed Shooting Disciplines, I would use the moon clips. The RIMZ clips are quite easy to use without tools but I still prefer NOT to have to use anything when I am recreationally shooting.

Of course, you always have to factor in the cost. I can buy .45 ACP (once fired) for $50.00 per thousand whereas the NEW .45 Atuo Rims cost $150.75 per thousand (including shipping direct from Starline - there is a $2.00 charge for insurance). I can handle the extra cost but at least we have a choice - and-d-d, I LIKE choices .
