Funny, but my take on it is that 45AR was an improved design to REPLACE moonclips. Moonclips have an advantage if you need to reload fast, but having to load the things up and unclip your brass is a bit of a pain. For general plinking, target and field use, not action games, I much prefer 45AR. I also run certain field loads much hotter than I ever would a load in 45ACP brass, a safety mechanism so I don't run them through one of my autos.

Thanks for the thoughtful replies. The only 45ACP guns I own are revolvers and I do compete in timed events. The night before a match I load up all my moons. I find loading 60+ moonclips very similar to loading magazines before a match. It's part of my ritual, helping settle me into a "match" frame of mind. With moonclips, I'm just about as fast as the 1911 shooters I compete with. Obviously then, speed is important to me. Plus, my brass is "well behaved". Easy to find and retrieve.
