I picked up a .30 carbine ruger blackhawk and for the revolver what die would you recommend for a crimp in the revolver. Thanx in advance.

Honestly, I haven't loaded for the .30 Carbine cartridge, but if the Lee Factory Crimp Die is available for it, that is what I would use. I have used the Lee FCD for about a dozen other cartridges and it does a really great job at giving a uniform and solid crimp. It is easy to use and setup and is inexpensive to boot. For the most part I'm not a fan of Lee loading equipment, but the FCD is the best of crimp dies IMHO.

Since 30 Carbine headspaces on the case mouth, use taper crimp even if the bullet has a cannelure.

I don't load for that round but I can wing it.

If you load for the Carbine I would not change a thing for simplicity and headspace reasons alone.

That aside, I like to seat and crimp in two stages since I have a 4th hole in the 550B tool head. I use the Lee FCD in all my loadings. Just bell and crimp lightly.

For the revolver itself you really wouldn't have to crimp at all IMO but I would myself as I think you would get a more consistent powder burn at the least.

Now if I used my single stage press, I would seat and (taper)crimp at the same time with rcbs dies.

What PB said....
So make sure of your brass length as well.
It's a surprisingly high pressure load.
While they'll take the G.I. loads, you'll find several other powders will perform better in the S/R's barrel length.
Fun gun!

I do load for a .30 Carbine Blackhawk but never had any problems using ammunition that had been taper crimped.
