My Thunder Ranch .44 special shoots 6 inches high at 15 yards with factory 246 grain roundnose lead. I loaded up some hard-cast 240 grainers with 7.5 grains of Unique{faster load, less barrel time, should lower point of impact]. Still shoots 4.5 inches high at 15 yards.Windage is perfect. Any suggestions other than a higher front sight? I've heard that some of the Thunder Ranch specials were regulated for factory 200 grain bullets. I've got some 200 grain remingtons in stock. Suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance.Lee.

I don't have that model of 44 Special but my loads use either a Sierra or Remington 210 JHP or a 180 cast. They should shoot lower for you.

I seem to remember that some of those guns had to have the front sights replaced.

Have a newer versin of that 44 special, without the emblem. It is regulated for 200 gn bullets.

It is unlikely you will be able to drive a heavy bullet fast enough to lower POI much.

A 200 lrnfp at about 800 fps and a Speer 200 GDHP at about 900 fps should work.

If your desire is for the heavier bullet, you will need a taller front sight.

+1

I have one of the Thunder Ranch revolvers and it hits POA/POI with 200 grain bullets.

I use a 200 gr LFN with 4.5 grains of Titegroup. It's a nice light load and doesn't lead the barrel at all. Best of all it hits right where I aim it.

Sorry about digging this up, but I have a load that shoots POA for my M-21 TR.
7.7 gr of Unique under a 226 gr Venom Ballistics cast hollowpoint.
VERY nice shooting load.
