Jes,
The only way that thing is going to end up in your hands is if I can figure out a lanyard that will attach to my wife! Why? 'Cause I know you will treat her like a lady and won't try to wrestle it away from her! (If it was me that had it on there might be a fight! Wink )

Well you are right I ain't about to 'rassle your wife for it and I wont take it with her attached either since I already have plenty of women (ONE) Big Grin

I do think you should rethink your negative position on that 586. Wink Go back and do some scripture reading. Read Hezekiah 3:5. I believe that it will convince you to do what is right and bring the revolver to me. It all but commands you to do so, Bro. Crazy. Smiler Hezekiah 3:5 Smiler

You must have one of them new fangled Bibles! I don't have that book in my KJV! There is a reason they call it the AUTHORIZED version, but that is a real thread drift!

And about the more than one wife thing, I agree!

It's hard enough to keep one happy I don't know what I would do with more than that! Wink

MAN ARE FIREARMS DIFFERENT!

I took the nickel 586 and the M60 to the indoor range today. I shot "THE LOAD" in two new to me revolvers. One was the one already mentioned. The other is a M60.

I shot the ones out of the 586 first and had to use extra pressure to get them extracted, odd in my opinion.

I also shot them in my new to me M60, 3" bbl. Now that was impressive. Recoil was manageable in the little guy and super accurate.

10 yards from support:

How about all the details, Skip?

Were they hard to extract from the M60?

What were the specific components?

etc., etc.

Impressive accuracy, Skip!

Adding to Jim's question. I assume you haven't slugged the barrels yet, but would be interested to know throat diameters on your new revolvers. Also, was it one stubborn case in 586 or several/all of them expanded?

Mike

Jim and Mike,
Sorry for being so sketchy, just getting old I guess. The components are exactly the same as the first ones I loaded as these are from the same batch.
The components are as follows: 160+/-grain LSWC from 80% wheel weights & 20% Linotype and an H&G 290BB mold sized to .358 with my own 33% White Label Liquid Xlox mixed with 66% beeswax lube. The cases were mostly Winchester with Federal small pistol (standard) primers installed. The powder is SR4756 and the weight is right in the middle of the Speer #8 data for this type of bullet.

I want to state again that I don't recommend this load for novices or for firearms not in excellent condition and of outstanding quality.

Out of the M60 there were no problems at all with ejection. By the way it is a 38 special only, no +P rating and not a 357 magnum either. There weren't any problems with primers as noted in the very first post in this thread. The videos show that the ejection from all the other firearms can be seen in them. The cases were all tight. Now when I say the 586 had hard extraction here is what I mean. According to Jessie there are very different things meant when discussing "sticky" extraction so I guess I need to explain my version. When I turned the revolver over, pointing the muzzle up and working the ejector with my left thumb the cases didn't fall out, I had to push hard. Hard enough that I was extremely surprised. I thought to myself; "Now this is different." But, with thumb pressure and no tools the cases came out. To me, that was "sticky" extraction. None of my other revolvers acted in this manner. EVERY FIREARM IS DIFFERENT!

I hope this answers your questions and forgive me for leaving these details out in the previous post.

I want to reiterate, if you use something like this load in your firearm you are the one responsible for what transpires, good or bad.

There's so much superfluous stuff in this thread, I think I'll take the opportunity to rant off on a tangent. I sure wish the manufacturers would publish reliable data. Hodgdon is, to me, the worst. Ridiculous fps numbers, and as in the case of 4756, max data that don't mean much. One reason I've been switching over to AA powders is that their data approach real world. Fps numbers are almost attainable. When working-up loads I use a chrono and, if possible, WLPs because they flatten nicely and provide a guesstimate of relative pressures. When I approach AA max numbers the chrono starts to tell me I'm about there, and those primers are looking like Bigfoot stomped them. Not so with Hodgdon or Alliant. I sometimes wonder where they get their numbers. Maybe from this forum?

Thanks Bro. Joel, I though you dun went a GLOWED yourself up!

Don't be a stranger!

Pinky,

You just like how those AA powders meter, you aren't kidding me any!

There is one Alliant powder I will never be without, Bullseye. Won too many shooting matches using it not to keep it on hand. The other may be Unique but I haven't used it much.

I really like HP-38/W231 too for some things.

I haven't used any AA#9 but have decided to use that instead of the WC820 I have as it is getting hard for me to get. My local supplier stopped handling it and I'm not ever going to use 6 8LB jugs of it, that is what it takes to order it yourself, so....

At any rate, I'm with you on the AA powders. I use AA#2 for some of the same loads I use Bullseye for and it works very well. Better? No but as good as.

'preciate your comments too!

Incredible Thread! I've been on hiatus since I last posted here in late November on about page 4 of this thread. I've set up my home computer now at our new house and opened up the Forum to see that, with 36 pages to its credit, it yet lives!

Conducted a mini test with SR 4756 and 158 grain SWC's last weekend in my 4-inch Mode 10 Heavy Barrel. It was accurate, shot very close to point of aim, was controllable, offered great penetration, and the old clunk revolver handled it gracefully. Extraction was normal. Primers weren't crawling out of their pockets. Two exhibited mild cratering but then my revolver's firing pin hole is probably worn and out of spec.

bmcgilvray,
If you would be so kind as to tell the folks here how old the Model 10 is.

Is it one of the new safe ones that has the lock? (sarcasm)

Is it one that is made with the newest technological advances in metallurgy? (sarcasm)

Did you measure the cylinder gap to see if your revolver frame has stretched? (sarcasm)

We have gracefully danced all around one of the reasons for this topic. "Is it safe in a "K" frame?" I have been hesitant to comment on that subject only because I have only one "K" frame, a M14 -2, that I don't really want to loosen up with an exorbitant amount of these rounds. Now if I had one that had seen this type of round for years and years I would think that would be worthwhile information. Big Grin
