I also like 6.8 grains of AA#5 with the same bullet. Haven't chrono'd it yet.

Thanks. SR4756 & AA #5 are the ones I'm going to try. Trail Boss intrigues me a lot though and I may give that a workout.

UPDATE: The 6.8 grains of AA#5 chrono'd at average velocity of 718 fps from my Pre-24 with a 6 1/2" barrel. Here's the results from a 10 round string:

High Velocity 747.7
Low Velocity 687.8
Extreme Spread 59.9
AV Velocity (fps)718.0
ST Dev (fps) 20.79
Energy (ft/lbs) 286.23

I don't know if WST is any better.

WST meters a lot like W231/HP-38. It is a flattened ball powder and has worked very well in some reduced 45ACP loads that a fellow PPC shooter uses.

AA#5. Can't Go wrong. You can get honest(not average)850 to 950 fps(depending on what you want) without pressure problems and super accuracy in the 240 to 250 gr weight bullets. Oh...the AA manual won't give you that load!

Universal & Universal Clays are both the same powder. The powders I use are:

4.5 gr of Clays under a 200 gr FP bullet (Clays is a different powder from Universal)

5.0 gr of IMR 700-X under a 240 gr Keith style HP

With both loads, I'm getting just around 750 fps from my 4" Smith, I am satisfied with the accuracy I get & are fun to shoot.
