Today I had to attend several meetings at off site locations. I arrived at my second meeting about 1/2 hr early so decided to swing by a small gunshop a few blocks away. Walking in I noticed dust covered reloading supplies in one corner.

Do you have any small pistol primers on hand? I asked. After checking his shelf he replied that he had CCI small pistol primers at $19.50 per thousand. The shop had 3K on the shelf and a couple cases on the floor. He looked a little surprised when I told him I would take all he had on hand but relaxed when I paid with cash.

Coming home I happened by a tire repair shop that I had been meaning to try and get some wheel weights from. When I stopped and asked the owner he said he had one 6 gallon bucket, but he could not afford to give them away any more. His going rate is $25 a bucket. I had to unload the bucket into boxes to carry it because I could not get it into the trunk of my car by myself. Frowner

Way to go walnutred! Nothing better than a good deal. You ought to be set for a while with those primers. How many bullets will you get out of that 6 gallon bucket's worth?

My best guess is there is about 130 pounds or so a wheel weights, which will cook down to about 110 lbs of lead once the zink and clips are removed. Most of what I cast is 158 gn 358 SWC, with the rest being evenly split between .452, 200 gn SWC and .314, 100 gn SWC.

So about 5000 bullets.

Thanks for the breakdown. $25 and hundreds of hours of your time. Wink

How many primers per case?

I don't tend to run into such deals. When I was shooting a .40 S&W a friend told me about a garage sale. A teenage girl was handling it at the time and she sold me about 20 boxes of Remington Golden Sabre SD ammo at about $2.50/bx. I think her father wasn't too happy when he found out but I was! Don

These cases had 10K per case. My first though was to try and sell them at the next gun show. My better thought was to put the full cases in a 20mm ammo can with some desiccant.

All of that trouble probably isn't necessary. Here's some old primers dating back to the 1960s that I still use without a problem, stored just the way you see them.

Ran into a good deal a couple of weeks ago. Bought 3000 CCI SP primers for $15/1000 and 3000 hard cast 170 grain .40 SWC for my M&P for $25/1000. Also, 1000 once fired cases for #20 and 2 containers of 231 for $20. This was a going-out-of business sale from a guy that sold components out of his small shop in his garage.
