Skip, thank you for your reply. I did use the Lee Factory Crimp Die. I pulled a couple of rounds and they miked at .450 to .451, that and the hard cast probably contributed to the leading of the barrel and cylinder chambers. I probably should stick to the 230gr acp bullet. The gun is regulated to that weight. Have you had any experience with the Lyman version of the 230gr?
I bought the M22 Classic in my first nickel revolver. I really like it. I really don't like the key lock but I just ignore it. It has a real smooth action and is very accurate with 230gr Win FMJ. And Skip I too have been walking the WAY since 1984. Take care. John |

I use two loads in the S&W 22-4: 7.5 grains Unique and 14.0 grains of 2400. I want 1000 fps more or less, depending on chronograph results with a particular batch of powder. In my S&W 25-2 6 1/2" I got 965 fps and 1018 fps respectively. I agree with the checking of the bullet you will use to see if it chambers correctly. I had a 1989 model S&W 625 that required finger pressure to seat my hand cast 255 grain SWCs. They worked just fine in the larger mouths of my S&W 25-2. The forward driving band is the key. If you can live with the close fit in you gun, see if you can push the bullets through the mouth with a wooden dowel or similar item. It they clear the mouth, then try a dummy round without power or primer and go from there to check fit in all the cylinders. Others here have done a better job than I explaining this. I have tried a micrometer but actual use of a case and bullet is my only for-sure test. I plan on trying some heavier than 255 grain bullets as soon as I can find the time. I have the David Scovill 270 grain SAA bullets waiting for me to try out. Brian Pearce, in the August 2008 Handloader magazine, used 6.0 grains Unique @ 897 fps and 11.0 grains 2400 at 851 fps for maximum loads. I can only speculate he ran out of case room with the 2400 loads.
