Sir, FWIW, Jeff Bartlett ( www.gibrass.com ) sells once-fired USGI Lake City 5.56 brass for $60 per thousand. Being GI, it has the crimped primer pockets; having the crimps removed adds $15 per thousand. Hope this helps, and Semper Fi. Ron H.

Sir, Federal commercial brass and Lake City military brass are not the same. Federal brass is very soft compared to LC and does not last as many loadings. Federal did run the Lake City plant for a time (may still, as far as I know), so possibly that's the source of the misconception. Hope this helps, and Semper Fi. Ron H.

Federal .223 brass is reputed to be very soft and some shooters report primers falling out of loosened pockets. I use Federal brass which I know to be once fired and I load it with CCI primers. This way I can get a few loadings out of it and I never have any trouble. I wouldn't pick up any range scrap though.
