keppelj: I tap it just before I raise the cartridge to dispense the powder. I have a Lee 4 stage turret press.

Thanks, I've got the 4 stage/die turret also.

Four stage is the way to go IMO. I like to seat and crimp in two different steps. I've found that the Lee factory crimp die is better at crimping than the Lee seating/crimp die is.

The Lee Adjustable Charge Bar works just fine, and you can REALLY get the charge that you want by following the instructions included with it, understanding them and VMD relationship to grains desired, etc. and setting it. I have found it to drop consistently and if you really understand the instructions you can come very close to the desired charge first time out.
A more subtle 'problem' is that I've found in the prompt revolution of the turret that the OFF-ON positions of the powder drop sometimes slips from fully ON to a little bit less. I noticed this because, luckily, I can see the powder in each case as charged, and noticed less on a drop or two. It was then that I noticed the powder container had backed off from the extreme ON position, resulting in a considerable loss of powder dropped. I'm considering temporarily taping it in that position. BEWARE! |
