Hello all,
Just picked up my Lee turret reloader, box of primers, dies, jug of Unique, case tumbler, box of 250 nosler 200gr HPs, reloading manual...
Decided that the appitite my 6" 629 has would put me in the poorhouse with factory ammo.
Have an order in for a box of bullets from Venom Ballistics, Cant wait for them to get here.
Will also be reloading for my fiancee's GP100 in .357.
Just wondering what pet loads yall had for the .44.
I am looking forward to experimentation and tweaking to see what my 629 prefers.

Thanks for the look,

Jim

You're still headed for the poorhouse. You'll just shoot more getting there. I started out with a couple K primers and a few hundred bullets. Now, even though I'm a small timer, I have about 17K primers, 15K bullets and 20lb of powder sitting around here and I'm starting to get nervous. Time to order supplies. When you buy a gun just so you can have something new to load for, you'll know it's all over. You're hooked.

I figured I would shoot up everything I load and spend similar money... but I am going to carry the party line about saving money. Big Grin
I only get just so much range time so I dont think I will be approaching your component amounts Wink

Range time doesn't matter. You won't want to go to the range and deplete those rounds you spent so much time and care loading. Big Grin

You’re new to reloading there is only one miracle powder SR4756 no other powder is required. The only true word is the Speer #8 which is the beginning and the end. No other reloading data sources are required. In fact do not waste your money on new Speer manuals. Speer should have stopped printing manuals after the #8. All other reloading information is suspect. Roll Eyes

On the other hand a prudent person would invest in the most current manuals and refrain from loading maximum powder charges. A conservative approach is better than producing ear splitting boomers. Attention to detail is important along with not letting yourself become frustrated or annoyed during a process. You’re better to have one quality reload than fifty problematic reloads. Wink

Thanks Dennis, I plan on moderate loads... lots of them.
Big Boomers are a LOT of fun, but not something I want to do for a straight 3 hours at the range.
I have a lot of reloading data saved on my laptop, and will be starting out nicely below max loads.
Problem reloads are not something I am looking to put together. I like the saying "Do it once, do it right".

I load my 44's (29's) with 2400 18.5 grains pushing 240 gr JSP from Montana Gold BUllets (freeshipping) or HP XTP Hornady. I use the brass 8 times then discard it and buy new Remington. I shoot about 150 rounds a week in 44.

Good luck in reloading, you will enjoy the process. If I have one piece of advice for your reloading it is this: Weigh EVERYTHING before you case it and use it. Knock on wood, I have never had a squib or a bad round go into the ammo case because I weigh and inpect EVERYTHING.

you have a .357 mouth to feed too Eeker
currently putting a production run of .357 through what I hope to be the correctly revised tooling.
The powder you have is my personal favorite behind the bullets you bought.
figure a max load of 11.6 grains and 11.4 is blissful perfection in my 629.
all else being equal, mine versus a Sierra in a mid range load .... this is going to be fun Big Grin

The good Lord will provide ... but its up to you to keep your powder dry www.venomballistics.com
